Hi I am currently painting 15mm vietnam figs. About 1/3 of the way though them. Currently the ones done are based 3 figs on 3cm squares. But just lately I have been having seconds thoughts on basing and rules and do not know how to base them and what rules to use. Should I do a rebase before I go to far adn what rules do you think I should use. Arrrrrg to many good stuff out there Cheers |

If Ambush Valley is on your list of possible rules to use, don't sweat the basing. You can use single figure basing or bases with multiple figures with our rules. It's up to you. |

Well, if you already play Flames of War, you can download the LZ X-Ray (battle from 'We were soldiers once') stuff off the Wargames Illustrated website (or off Battlefront, I forget). You can also probably find the mini-size rulebook for about $10 USD at some stores (or in the Open Fire starter set). I happen to like the size of the FoW bases, so I use them for a lot of stuff (especially HW teams), even for a skirmish game like Ambush Alley. Ambush Valley is available, but it sounds like you want a larger scale game than that. Other than those two (my preferred rulesets for reinforced company or sub-platoon games, respectively), I'm not sure. |

The thing is most rule systems are pretty flexible. I've got stuff based per Crossfire, but have used them with Blitzkrieg Commander, Coldwar Commander and FOW. I think as long as everything is based the same it will work for any system. |

You can use single figure basing or bases with multiple figures with our rules. You can? I thought Ambush */Force on Force was single-based. |

Here's what we say in Force on Force (the language is virtually identical in Ambush Alley): ALTERNATE BASING Many Force on Force players may already have modern military figures based on multi-figure stands for use with other games. This basing method works perfectly fine with Force on Force, so there's no need to rebase your existing armies or replace them with new figures. Simply treat each stand as a fireteam and keep track of how many casualties it has taken. I know of several customers who play this way, especially those that are playing the game using 10 & 12mm figures. |

Too Fat Lardies has a set of Vietnam rules close to completion I think. I think it's called "Charlie Don't Surf." |

I have been told on thier group by the Author that FoW basing will work just fine with Charlie dont surf. |

Wel, we need a touch more info on what sort of game you're looking for, and what level of detail and command. Do you want huge games with a battalion on the board, or something smaller with more detail and grit to it? As for basing, I'm going to go the other direction and suggest that you base them individually so you can do the metal/magnet thing in case you ever want to use them as individuals in skirmish games like FNG, Charlie Co, Buckle For Your Dust, etc. |

I am basing most of my figures on 30x30 bases for use with the "Incoming" modified Crossfire rules and Peter Pig's Vietnam rules. Doing this also means that I can use the US forces as a superpower intervention force for AK-47. |

Hi Thanks for all the replies. Most proberly go for FOW sizes with Magnet basing. Interested in large battles but Ambush Valley does look good. Has any try using the Ambush family of rules with FOW basing ? Cheers |
