Just thought I would write a quick note to recommend a CD that I picked up last year to accompany some painting sessions. The album is called The Plains of Waterloo by The New Scorpion Band. It is available from here: link They are a traditional folk ensemble and the album contains many tunes that would have been popular in Great Britain and amongst her armed services during the Napoleonic wars.

I think it's great personally and now find myself humming 'The route has just come for the Blues' all the time. Highly recommended!

Must admit I got it and was a bit disappointed. Not saying it wasn't well executed, but the music was different to what I had expected. Not military enough for me … more folksy. One of my favourite tunes is there ('The British Grenadier'), but has nothing like the oomph of the 'Barry Lyndon' version. But if you like folk music and sea shanties, then it'll be fine.

Do you know of good French military music CD? I got one CD that was just dreadful, sounded like it was recorded in a subway. All the songs sounded the same.

Crystallion is releasing their "100 Days" CD in the very near future…if it's anything like their "Hattin" album…it'll be a melodic metal classic!

Arteis – yes it is folksy, but that is what the average soldier would have likely been used to and enjoyed. There are plenty of cds of parade ground music and marches out there so I find this to be a welcome change.

vtsaogames – I have this album link which is very nice. All marches and fanfares though. If anyone knows whether any french folk music of the period is available I would be very interested!
