Five of us gathered to play the "Skies of Olive Drab" scenario from the Falcon of the Duce supplement for Check Your 6! Having played only a few small games, we are still learning the rules and this was our largest scenario to date. Per the setup, the B-17s and escorting Spitfires were at TAL 3 while the Italians chose to start at TAL 6. Rather than make a frontal attack, the Italians flew past and above the bombers, then circled as they descended to approach from the rear. The Spitfires followed the Italian fighters and climbed slowly to reach them. I drew first blood when my veteran Spitfire pilot accidently shot down a friendly escort, much to the glee of the Italian players. The agile Macchi 202s and 205s were very hard to hit given their better pilots, while the Italians found it difficult to damage the rugged B-17s. The Italians boldly flew right into the tight bomber formation and finally started to inflict damage on the Fortresses. One of the B-17s took a jammed rudder lucky hit and shed enough debris to damage its attacker. A Fortress crew finally scored a solid hit on a Macchi; its massed .50 fire shredded the Italian fighter. I shot down another Italian fighter with a lucky hit that killed the pilot. We had to quit playing after about 15 turns; the last couple of photos depict the final situation. On the last turn I inflicted a lucky hit on an Italian plane's fuel tank, which exploded in a fireball and damaged my Spitfire with debris. When we stopped playing, the Italians had lost three fighters, while one Spitfire was destroyed and two others were damaged. Four of the B-17s had been damaged; two of these jettisoned their bombs and aborted. Victory points were almost even, so we declared a draw as it could still have easily gone either way. It was an exciting game with lots of lucky hits that really kept things interesting.

Looks like pictures 9 & 10 pretty well sum it up. Thanks for the post.

I love flying Italian planes, but they are under gunned.

We played one scenario from the book with B-25's and P-38 with green pilots. The Italians only had 4 fighters, but all were either Ace or Veteran skill.

The P-38's couldn't hit any other the Italian fighters due to their pilots and the planes ability to dance across the sky.

The problem for the Italians was they didn't have the guns to take down the tough American bombers. Eventually, the bomber gunners found the mark on 2 Italian fighters and the Italian Ace ran out of ammo with double "6".

Fun set of rules and a very good scenario book.

Thanks for sharing the game report.

Very nice svsavory;

The planes look great and the final shots with planes in fire or smoking says a lot about the intensity of the fight.

Italys' top ace went down from massed defensive fire after flying into a B-17 formation.

We play CY6, and have played the one scenario where Italian CR 42s try and take down a Sunderland Flying Boat.
Talking about being under gunned.
I have just finished reading about the US Army Air Corp in the Med, it gave me a lot of scenario ideas.
Thanks for sharing;

Who's flight bases are those (vendor). Really nice. I see the white is the Alt but is the Red speed?

Nice after action and pics.

The red is indeed speed.

I had a nice tight box of bombers until it all fell apart. In the space of two turns, three B-17 were damaged and two aborted.

Scott – you forgot that one of the damaged B-17 scored the lucky hit for 'heroic' crew – just before they aborted. My favorite moment – when the rudder flew off the B-17 and smacked the Italian fighter on its tail.

Who's flight bases are those (vendor). Really nice. I see the white is the Alt but is the Red speed? Red is for Speed.

Podette – they are from 'Regal Miniatures' Can get them from the Last Square [see manufacturer directory]- sold separately or with some prepainted 1/300 aircraft – come with magnets for the aircraft and stand. Each has a different colored indicator to differentiate the aircraft.

6 to a pack usually. I have 36 – seems to be enough.
