I'm painting up some Foundry 25mm WW1 British late war. I'd like to "Australianize" them to add a bit of character to the battlefield. Does anyone have any suggestions on the colours to use to distinguish if at all possible Australians as they would have appeared in France in 1917 and 1918? I'd particuarly appreciate references to Vallejo paints. Also is there a good resource on the web for insignia worn by Australian units around this time? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

The Osprey on the Australian army, while way out of date, had superb plates of WW1 LW troops. There were some big differences between some arms of service, but generally you can't go wrong with the standard British colours – I beleive that the ANZACs were issued from British stocks from 1917 onwards, but could be wrong. Big difference would be unit badges etc.

Google it, you will find your answers I'm sure.

Australian tunics with Bakelite buttons throughout the war along with Bedford Cord Breeches. The weapons and field equipment were British. The colors could vary alot.

Go to the Australian War Memorial web site and do a collections search on any of the AIF BNs. Almost all of them have color pictures of uniforms from their collection.
