Hello all,
Vallejo and Reaper paints are expensive for big projects – buildings, terrain, tables, etc.

Does anyone have a link for a chart that would enable the user to cross reference paint colors between vallejo, humbrol, GW, Reaper and commonly available craft paints – apple barrel, ceramcoat, art deco (deco art?)for example?

I've tried following a couple of older threads but the links are no longer functional.

Thanks,
Mike

Try tihs site for just about any color line you can imagine. It's a very useful site – link (silicon-dragons)

I'll second the silicon-dragons site. I've been using it for a couple of weeks and it works pretty well.

Odd, silicon-dragon does not list Americana, a craft paint which is sold at Michaels. I use a lot of it.

Wrgmr1 do you have a chart for your Americana colors that you would be willing to provide?

nebeltex, Chgowiz and bjporter – thanks for the info, that's gonna help a lot! One question – how do you use the chart? In the convert to column you get three results – are the three results the closest choices?

Thanks,
Mike

Yes, the results you get in the window are the closest matches from those you selected, with their base, shade, and highlight color. There is a slightly different version of the tool which I like to use. It is at the following address. This one lets you pick a specific color to compair to multiple ranges.

wrgmr1, he doesn't have every paint brand made on the site. At one time, he requested that people send him samples of other brands so that he could update the tool. There is a link somewhere on the site that tells how he likes the samples to be sent to him. Obviously nobody wants to invest money in tons of paints and would rely on the help of the miniature painting/wargamming community.

He's got a formula that has each color inputed as a number based on a scan of the color sample. He then compares them based on the formula to generate the suggested colors. It's worked fairly well for me.

Finally he has a third tool, called Color Shades that you can use to find good shades of a color so that you can find all the shades and highlights.

The two sites I listed aren't always intuitive to use. First select Paint Search in the method. Then select the paint line you want to match from. Then click submit query. Now it will list all the paints from the line you selected. You can now select a specific color you want to match. In the color match configuration you can select from many different criteria. Select what you want to match. If you want to match it to multiple lines hold down the CTRL key while selecting multiple lines. Click Query when you are done. It will display the best matches it can find base on your criteria.

If you have the hex rgb code for a specific color you've found somewhere you can input that by selecting RGB Color search at the top and entering the code instead of selecting your source color. Annoyingly, this is the default mode.

@TooMuchLead & @wrgmr1 – Americana is listed as "DecoArt Americana" which is on the list at the link I sent. I buy Americana at Hobby Lobby, and I've used this chart to match closely to GW paints.
