How about this
a virus that incubates, those affected have 48hrs to find out if they 1)press on (carriers) or
2)become infected and go into a permanent murderous rage
3)get infected, go nuts, and then this mutates creating a bit more contagious version of the virus (blood contact)
4)then add the potential for zombie (insert your choice
I am going with a failed "cure" delivered via aerial spray). So you have a staged process with potential of normal looking carriers, fairly normal looking murderous types, not so normal bloody vomit types, and then into your zombies. We could consider the carriers as "safe" from the virus
the mutated one may still get them though. The zombies in my vision
start fast and as long as they stay "full" they are full of pep and verve
as the hunger gnaws away at their bodies they start to slow down, then becoming lurchers
once they are completely sated again they pick up speed
and the cycle continues. If the zombie does not eat for a long period of time it would go into hibernation. Even if lulled out of this hibernation, the damage to the flesh is beyond repair and remains a slow lurcher at best. So how does that sound? I would like it to cross over to dogs and cats, maybe mammals in general? |

Yeah, zombie cats and rats and such like could get anywhere, there would be no keeping them out of stuff and everyone would die. |

True
things would get ugly, quick. |

If it is mammals in general, just write everyone off. Sounds similar to the Morningstar virus in the course of the infection. Morningstar is interesting in that the "rage" stage you can put down one of the infected with body shots, but if you don't kill the brain then it will get up again after a period of time to be a shambler. |

Most virus's jump from an animal carrier to humans, so one type of animal might be subject or is just the carrier, figure its a carrier only. Virus's mutate over time so the reacurrance of zombie plauge comes and goes over time. Bird Flu in chickens, bubonic in chimpmunks etc. Just some ideas to toss in, |

The infected ravens in the last Resident Evil were a nice touch. |

I was on the road to work on a ship and had 5 hrs to kill
I was thinking how about the infection starts with dogs? A bite carries the virus
rrrrr. Highly likely to be bitten, they can not open doors, etc.. Zombie dogs
whew that would be a creepy scene
dozens of mixed breed zombie dogs chasing after someone through a fog
And yes those black birds from RE Extinction was fun in the sun
black birds and dogs
and this lamp, that's all I need
