picture For those following the campaign, here is the campaign map. I am still tinkering with the rules that go with it, currently it is still too complex. JJ |

Yes, that is a very nice map! @JJ: Could you please share the campaign rules once they are honed, perhaps even through an article in WSS (ask Allen and talk to Guy) or elsewhere
? |

Sorry that wasn't much help. This is better: I made the map by researching some books and fiddling with downloaded maps from the internet such as these: picture picture picture picture picture link The rivers and lakes are mostly from one of the maps overlayed on my campaign area. The art program I use is Photoshop, it is my preferred graphics tool, since I am familiar with it.
The composite map was set on the base layer, then other layers built up the textures tones and burnt edges (also borrowed from the web) and other items. The heads are from coins, also downloaded and altered from the internet. The compass plate is an image taken from the Montvert Seleucid army book, artwork by Angus McBride, that I have used on the AncientBattles.com site. Because so many elements are based on other sources, this is not a good item to publish
that's why I am giving it out free. I could re-work it for publishing and WSS is a great idea for that, once the campaign rules gel into something useful. Currently we use the rules/map as a narrative framework for our Campaign, we are having fun without too much dogmatic input from the 'rules'
. and the Seleucids are currenlty driving the Ptolemies back into Pelusium
but will they come back?? JJ |

Firstly, that is a gorgeous looking map! However, I'm not so sure about your choice of cities. Places like Ugarit and Neapolis are from different perios (BA and Roman respcetively), while Thapsakos (wrong place), Hebron and Dor were minor places of little or no significance during the Hellenistic period. Is the Antiocheia in Kilikia meant to be Adana or Tarsos? Eitherway it is too close to the sea. With a bit of tweaking, that could be an absolutely brilliant and accurate campaign map. |

Thanks for the links and advice, JJ. I must say I've often looked for campaign maps I could nick from boardgames; hadn't really considered that I could knock one up myself
Cheers, Simon |

Neapolis should be Bethel, I also need to add another path that goes through Jericho. Tarsus was named Antiochia in this period, so I reckon it should be Antiochia (Tarsus), there hasn't been any Ptolemaic incursions into Syria, so Ugarit is safe :) Thapasakos is just a point on the map. Dora was actually besieged in the Syrian wars by Antiochus, that's why it's a minor town with a fort. Thanks JJ |
