About 12 years ago I was working half way up a mountain in Switzerland..I heard a low rumble of an old aero engine,I looked down and saw the source: A Swiss-air Ju52 on an internal flight. Suddenly I was transported to the opening reel of "Where Eagles Dare" Fabulous. Not sure if they are still flying them. |

I know that they went out of service with the Swiss AF in the 80's. I don't know about civilian service. Robert |

See link – surviving Ju-52's. 2 are operated out of Switzerland on charter. Apaprently even BEA had 10-11 for use inside the UK 46-47 – ex war reparations. They called them "Jupiter" class, and they served the Scottish islands – 2 had originally been allocated to "Scottish Airways – 1 of which crashed just before transfer to BEA, the other was used for parts. Not quite post war – but I seem to remember somewher that a Fw-200 Condor served with the Brits, and was on standby to evacuate teh Royal Family in 1940 – it had been a Danish airliner, and was in the UK when Denmark surrendered so was impounded. It was the longest range a/c in the British Isles at the time (IIRC) – the only 1 capable of making an unrefueled Atlantic crossing or something like that. |
