Anyone using these yet? Don't have one yet but I am looking, I could carry my netbook and other stuff to cons and sech and not have to worry about them lying around. |

I carry a cloth brief case back and forth to work. I don't keep wallet or money or keys in it. That is what pockets are for. I keep a book, useless stuff and medicine just in case. It is nothing new. |

Uh
just a bit too gay for me. No. |
aecurtis | 09 Feb 2010 6:07 p.m. PST |
I've carried bags to haul accessories for years. Including my CVC helmet bag. Nothing "gay" about it. But then, I'm quite secure in that area. Allen |

Yep, I still have my map case, too. I wonder what a hussar would think about the suggestion that there was an issue with his manhood because he wore a sabretache. Oh, yes: picture Allen |

Those listed look "cool", or "manly". I think what the topic started as is like the one in the Geico commercial
could be wrong.. picture I use a back-pack, close to a small Alice and a helmet bag. |

Hey, Indiana Jones wore one! Yes those listed look awesome, and thats what I'm on about! |

Between goodie bags from conventions and a local grocery chain's green alternative to "paper or plastic" I have a few choices in which I carry gaming materials – rule books, dice, rulers, etc and so far as I know, none of my gaming group cares one way or another. I also use my camera bag as well, but there's not much room after one camera and two lens – maybe a FoG rule book and some dice. David |

I carried my small pack from my army days for more than a decade after I left the army. It fell apart and a number of years ago, I replaced it with some bag I bought at a purse store. I have always called it a purse, because that is how it is used. I carry it everywhere all the time and it holds my needles (I left the Army because I developed diabetes), money, flashlight, knife, credit cards, etc. For those I've met who are very insecure about their masculinity and insist on telling me "no, it's a man-bag", I smile and say "no, it's purse, that's its function and I'm really not worried about calling it that". The very, very few times someone has made stupid cracks about it being "gay" or "feminine", my response has always been something to the effect of: "I was a captain in the Canadian Special Service Force and I've probably done more tough in my life than most people you know – tell me what it is you think makes YOU so tough?" which has not failed to shut such people up. -- Tim |

I have an old black leather backpack I've carried over ten years. It has room for everything in it. I call it my Tactical Bag. flashlight, knife, wallet, notebooks, pens, pencils, altoid tins (sometimes with altoids) anything and everything I need. My wife used to try to give me a hard time about it, but I ignored her. |

hurcheon | 10 Feb 2010 4:05 a.m. PST |
I use rucksacks and record bags all the time, and those seem acceptable without any reflection on my personality other than "Why has that idiot just turned and knocked me over with his rucksack" when I take one of my larger ones for things like doing the weekly shopping. But if it is keys, a book, a netbook and some music you want to carry then a record bag is ideal |
galvinm | 10 Feb 2010 4:42 a.m. PST |
I carry a black backpack. It holds everything I need when going out for the day. Book, knife,(I guess we were all boy scouts, since we all carry one), meds, wallet, etc. Just more convenient. Nobody has ever questioned me about it, except the security guards at certain places (VA hospital, airport, etc.). |
Big Martin | 10 Feb 2010 4:58 a.m. PST |
I stuff everything in a backpack. It's a bit of a b******r to find things but, walking with a stick as I do, I find that anything "over the shoulder" fouls with the stick as I walk around. |

I carry a bright yellow messenger bag when I'm at Origins. My friends tried to give me a ration of feces about it until I asked them how will they describe their bags to security should they turn up missing. |

In the UK, a "purse" is a small (usually leather) zipped bag just for holding money. Also called a "change purse". I have used one for years – saves wear and tear on your trouser pockets! My other stuff, including a laptop, I carry around in a multipurpose backpack. It's big enough to be used as an overnight bag if necessary. |
asa1066 | 10 Feb 2010 6:13 a.m. PST |
I use something my wife ordered from the UK for me. It's refered to as a "messenger bag" and is made of olive green canvas with the badge of the Ahnk-Morpork City Watch on it. They don't seem to sell it any more but there is a similar laptop bag here: link David S. |

I use a reproduction ACW plain duck haversack. Haversack, not knapsack. That means it's over your shoulder, not on your back. Some of the guys from The Battle Barn started kidding me about it at Fall In, calling it a "man purse". That's fine. When they start kidding you, you know you've been accepted. What dirves me nuts is guys with backpacks. They turn around and bang in to people, displays, and anything else within range! Tom |

I have a dark olive-green canvas "messenger bag" that I bought years ago at an Eddie Bauer outlet. One of my gaming buddies calls it the "magic bag" because he never knows what gaming goodie I'm going to pull out of it. Those surplus map cases look interesting
I wonder if an iPad would fit? ADDENDUM: I also like that Ahnk-Morpork City Watch bag!

I still have my CVC helmet bag and map case from my Army days, and I just got this for Christmas, in black: link Has plenty of space and a concealed carry pouch for my Glock. I haven't actually tried it out yet, but soon. Maybe next time I take the boys geocaching. |

A man-purse is a horrible solution for carrying miniatures. It has no internal rigidity or padding to prevent protruding weapons and arms and flags from bending or snapping off. Also it's not very big and there is no standardization of sizes and shapes so you can't develop a system of internal cases or padded trays that can be expected to move from one man-purse to another. This is on the Storage and Transport board and this is a Miniatures forum, right? ;) Anyway, man-purse not necessary here as I have pockets. I do have tons of briefcases, messenger bags, laptop bags, backpacks, etc., that I adopt as needed for carrying extra stuff, and that includes game rulebooks as needed. |
Martin Rapier | 10 Feb 2010 1:55 p.m. PST |
I have a range of 'man bags' in different shapes and sizes for carrying things, ranging from the smallest which is mainly for walking and easily fits my compass, whistle and other bits and pieces in, through various bigger shoulder bags, generally big enough for a laptop. My brother-in-law is always horrified by the casual way I dare wear a bag in public, but maybe that is a Leicester thing. None of these bags are in any way suitable for carrying figures in, althuogh I do stuff rules, notebooks, rulers etc into some of them. |

Lee Brilleaux | 10 Feb 2010 2:28 p.m. PST |
Okay, that was a lie. I use a beat-up olive canvas bag with cat scratches and repaired leather straps. I've had it 20+ years. I don't have matching underwear for that. |

I've got backpacks, a sort of canvas purse/handbag/briefcase thing (kind of like the grocery stores sell you these days), and a fluorescent green plastic bucket, I carry one or the other every day for hauling work-related items (I'm an archaeologist, it varies by where I am that day – office, field, or construction site). No European shoulder bag, though

"Okay, that was a lie. I use a beat-up olive canvas bag with cat scratches and repaired leather straps. I've had it 20+ years." Sounds semi-military, soooo
"I don't have matching underwear for that."

I still carry some of my MOLLE Utility stuff from when I was in the Air Force, but no purse
That's why I wear cargo pants when not at work
it's amazing the amount of things I can stuff in the various pockets. |
1815Guy | 29 Jul 2010 6:22 a.m. PST |
yes, they are pretty useful. In UK the term is messenger bag or Manbag. Members of my fmaily have been using this sort of stuff for donkeys years. In Liverpool it was totally de rigeur to use your former gas mask case to carry your sarnies and thermos to work! Many's the day when you'd see one of those slung from the back of a cyclist on his way to work
.. Now the "designers" or the "pink pound" are involved Im sure the prices will be extortionate
! :o) Heres one for less than a fiver! link |
