For such a visual hobby it's quite amazing just how many people seem satisfied with a (largely) text only forum. That's because clear, easily readable text is the best way to impart information. If you want to show a picture you can use the magic of a link without forcing everyone to load the image first. -Kle. |

That's because clear, easily readable text is the best way to impart information. A fact that has sadly been proved wrong by some of the more excitable members of this forum ;-) |

All the examples so far have had one thing different that I can think of. None of them invite you to become a "supporting member". I'd happily pay for a decent forum. I won't pay for this . Half the database maintenance issues would be avoided anyway if posts consisting of "Shrug", "Dude" and other mindless crap/drivel were culled and the offenders shot. They must account for at least 30%?? |

Why the is everyone, including the OP, whinging and moaning and groaning about TMP when it's pretty common knowledge the editor is working on TMP 2 with a proper database engine and not this Miva crap. Why not give it a chance (hopefully Bill will be able to apply some simple basic relational database design principles that Miva -I assume – prevented) and then legitimately bellyache. But not now. Good Lord. -- Tim |

I second that MeroMero. I won't pay for this . You don't have to. I didn't see anybody chain you to your desk. "Honey will you please come loosen my leg irons?" That's because clear, easily readable text is the best way to impart information. A fact that has sadly been proved wrong by some of the more excitable members of this forum ;-)
I'm sure I've done my part in that department too. If you want to show a picture you can use the magic of a link without forcing everyone to load the image first. If I had to load all that with each post/thread, my Laptop would lock up. |

Why the bleep is everyone, including the OP, whinging and moaning and groaning about TMP when it's pretty common knowledge the editor is working on TMP 2
Perhaps because so many other people keep insisting there is nothing broken with TMP. If any of those people are manufacturers, be advised that with daily ID mix-up this morning I was able to happily peruse the "secret" Sponsors' Forum for a few minutes, so I'd be careful what you say about your customers when you think nobody is listening, if I were you. :) And of course, I got to read a sponsor's PMs while I was about it. Fun, fun, fun. |

I wonder if anyone has ever been logged in as "the Editor"? In the wrong hands that could be a disaster. |

I'd happily pay for a decent forum. I won't pay for this . Then don't. The functionality is the same, either way. Derek H – you should look up what Luddite actually means. I'm all for upgrading the site for greater reliability, and I'm not violently anti-technology. Every possible modernization is not a positive change, however. -Kle. |

"

" In a sense, no one directly pays for this: that's why the term is "supporting" -ie: more like "helping along" than "causing to be". Complaints that becoming a S-M* gains nothing tangible/valuable miss the point that no such thing is offered/promised. *the masochist says "hit me! hit me!", and the sadist replies "no". |

Every possible modernization is not a positive change, however. True, But when almost every other modern board offers features that have been proven to be beneficial to it's users why deny using them? Bill has been adding bits and pieces to this site and I assume that he will take the same route in designing the new. @Dittobird, Did I miss a post by Bill that said what features are going to be in the updated site? If ever a time to show what needs to be added it is now when the groundwork is being added. |

I like all of the suggestions for improvement so far: they are reasonable and commonplace elsewhere. TMP is a forum, not a "place". I don't care what format/look/features it has, so long as it WORKS. And sometimes it doesn't for the most mystifying reasons -- which we all know as "the BUG". Funny creature, the BUG; I think it would be missed if Bill kills it off entirely. Oh, and "Eh, Dude! *shrug*" is just part of the forum. I'll take that over the drive-by behavior that is also commonplace elsewhere. When Bill's done with his upgrade, then I might have more to say

I have no comment because we're ultimately doomed to be replaced by an expert system using a d6 randomizer for forum interaction. 1. random angst 2. sense 3. nonsense 4. shrug 5. refresh page 6. click to next forum |

Many dark oaths are made and dark secrets shared in the Secret Lounge! You're lucky you escaped with your sanity, Plynkes! Did you notice that the "Sponsor of the Week" awards wall appears to be convex at first glance, but concave at the second? Or that the walls and floor are covered with a green ichor? Sorry about the ichor. I've had a bad cold. |
