Does anyone know the manufacturer of these figures? They are American Plains Indians and cavalry. Here are some photos:

Thanks in advance!

Hovels, perhaps?

Jagger08 Feb 2010 6:13 p.m. PST

I don't think so. I believe they are from a major manufacturer like Essex or Minifigs but I can't remember. Although I do know that I never bought from Hovel.

I have a load of Minifigs – they;re not current Minifigs. they could be from a prior generation.

They don't look like Freikorps to me though I couldn't swear to it.

Sure look like Minifigs to me. They have pictures on the GFI site

Though if Mark says no, I'd believe him.

They aren't Frei Korps. They may be Minifigs. I actually own some of these. I bought them from a guy on Ebay and he wasn't sure what they were. They also aren't Hovels.

Thanks,

John

I suspect Minifigs because I bought quite a few in the past. So I wouldn't be surprised if they are Minifigs. But I just don't remember now who I bought them from. They are very nice 15mm models.

Jagger08 Feb 2010 6:57 p.m. PST

I just looked at VSAT's minifig links. The similiarities in pose are striking. I bought these in the early 90's. My guess is they are earlier generation Minifigs.

Jeigheff08 Feb 2010 7:36 p.m. PST

Could these be some of the old Frontier miniatures from the 80s? They varied in quality, but some of them were pretty nice.

Of course, I could be wrong.

Scale Creep Miniatures08 Feb 2010 7:39 p.m. PST

Yeah could be earlier Minifigs – mine were all purchase in the last couple years…

Jagger08 Feb 2010 7:41 p.m. PST

I don't recall ever buying Frontier miniatures.

It is easier to identify the manufacturer if a person can see the base. Even the different generations of Minifig can be differenciated by the bases. Strip bases are 1st edition, 2nd gen are thick rectangle bases. 2nd gen transition were thin rectangle bases. 3rd gen are oval bases and wavy horse bases.
Other company base styles were circular or oval, oval with wavy tops (grass). Some have data etched in them.

Did not RAFM have a range of 15mm 'yellow ribbon range' back in the 1990s.
They look to bulky to be 3rd Gen Minifigs.
Frontier did have a range of old west in 15mm.

Jagger08 Feb 2010 9:39 p.m. PST

I will check the bases and get back tomorrow. Thanks!

Rudy, that was the Frei Korps range from RAFM I mentioned. I forgot about Frontier. Maybe, but they sure do have the pose of the Minifig's troopers.

Thanks,

John

They are not from the Freikorp Yellow Ribbon range: link

The bases are oval, thin with textured or wavy tops. So 3rd generation but are they Minifigs?

Jagger, as far as I can tell from your pics, they're definitely not the old Frontier Miniatures, as their heft was rather "stumpy". Also, Frontier's bases for 15mm figures were rectangular with a smooth surface.

Rudysnelson09 Feb 2010 10:05 a.m. PST

I called Minifig 3gen oval but they are more often octogon with four long qand four short straight base sides. Horse bases were thin and wavy.

The being an oval base reduces the option. As stated the Frontier were rectangle.

Did not Stone Mountain have a range of Pony Wars in the 1980s and 1990s? They were sold under the Campaign label.

CooperSteveOnTheLaptop09 Feb 2010 11:05 a.m. PST

only other company i can think of would be Tabletop but i don't know what they look like

Jagger09 Feb 2010 3:10 p.m. PST

I am pretty sure I never bought from Stone Mountain or Tabletop.

I wouldn't guarantee but I would bet they are Minifigs. The pose similiarity of certain figures is the primary reason I suspect Minifigs.

Are they for sale? If so, I'm interested. BTW, I could swear they match the Stone Mountians figs I own.
