Comments or corrections?

I have been pointed in the direction of Field of Battle for gaming larger actions on the NW Frontier.

I have no previous experience of the Piquet genre of rules: is there a ready source (official or unofficial) of cards suitable for the colonial period? Am I correct in assuming that the Din of Battle colonial supplement is no longer available?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Din of Battle II is being completed by Eric Burgess. The cards in FOB will work for colonial actions.

Thanks,

John

I use FOB for Space 1889 and Taiping Rebellion,
so it should work for BWF.. but FOB does not cover the NWF specifically.. it has Zulu and Madhist tho.

I also have DoB I which I use for info.. which does cover the NWF Pathans..

There is no 'Colonial' card deck per se.. the deck changes from game to game. So Piquet Core rules and FOB provide a
basic set of cards – a set of cards that apply to any period..

The supplements have period specific cards.

For each game, the players card deck is a different mix of these basic cards. The deck is then 'tweaked' by adding period cards.

For example, the natives might add a 'Native Mobility'
card, allowing them an extra move. The Brits might add a 'Devastating Volley' card..

You can also have scenario-specific cards that you
make up. In one of my games, the Martians get an
'Ill Omen' card which causes one faction to
check morale if and when the Brits take the temple.

In another, the Brits get a 'Heat Exhaustion' card..
ehen it turns up, all Brit movement is 1/2 until they
get re-watered from the water wagon.

In short.. it's a very robust system.

Any guesstimate when DoB II will be published..?

Many thanks for the replies.

So, would I be better waiting for Din of Battle II, if I am looking for purely colonial rules?

Does anyone know would the main Piquet rule book be needed for DOBII: I understnad that FOB is a stand alone system. I do prefer everything in the one rule book if possible

Piquet Core Rules: need a supplement for any period,
such as DoB for colonials..

Field of Battle: stand alone product. Covers some colonial wars (Zulu and Madhist, Indian Mutiny) but not NWF specifically.

So.. don't wait for Din of Battle.. get Field of Battle.
You'll have to do a little extrapolation for BWF ..
or ask on the yahoo group if there are existing adaptations.

When DoB comes out, you will find it useful as source material.
