The titles says it all….

RKE Steve08 Feb 2010 10:48 a.m. PST

Ambush Valley by Ambush Alley games.

Martian Root Canal08 Feb 2010 10:52 a.m. PST

Also Charlie Company from RAFM if you can find a copy, but I also recommend Ambush Valley.

Oddball08 Feb 2010 10:55 a.m. PST

I like using Force on Force (from the same people who make Ambush Valley). I haven't played Ambush Valley yet.

Have not tried Ambush Valley yet.

I have used my own bastardized combination of Charlie Company and Piquet to create some good games – at least according to the players.

Might have to dig that out again…

Ambush Valley is the best I have tried. I recommend it heartily!

dwight shrute08 Feb 2010 11:54 a.m. PST

How many figs on a side? Individually based? You want fire & resolution handled individually or my group?

I've got Charlie Company & Ambush Valley. Both fine, I think CC is a little more simplistic.

I plan on using Stargrunt with some mods from Ambush Valley.

I'd recommend Ambush Valley, FNG and Charlie Company. Pretty sure the Lardies ones will be pretty good as well.

Take your pick really, we are spoilt for choice to be honest.

I prefer "The Long Road South" by Iron Ivan, but I like the Iron Ivan style of play-fast (within two hours), deadly and easy to learn. I haven't played Ambush Alley or Charlie Don't Surf. Be fun to try them all, with a willing teacher.

Paint it Pink08 Feb 2010 3:49 p.m. PST

Charlie Don't Surf has got to be the one to wait for as the Lardies produce well thought out sets of rules that are really fun to play.

Giac My and Recon. With a google search both are available free on pdf

LOL The first question is what rules do you currently play? It makes a difference in what rules might work for you.
Do you play games that allow for total control of your troops at all times?
Do you play single figure or stand based rules?

One thing I can recommend is if someone suggests something like "You can adapt it…", don't even bother.

I've used a Vietnam variant of Rapid Fire, but will be switching over to Ambush Valley.

The Rapid Fire variant is great if you are just starting out since you don't need a large number of miniatures.

I'm a big fan of AA games, so I'll be making the switch.

Where would we find this RF vietnam set???

Big P from GMG09 Feb 2010 8:23 a.m. PST

Ambush Valley for games focussing on the Fire Team as the main element of control (my preferred level of play).

FNG for games focussed on the individual grunt.

Getting those two gives you options to play varying scales of encounter. Just to note my bias, I wrote AV so of course Im going to recommend that! ;-)

Big P from GMG09 Feb 2010 8:53 a.m. PST

I'm a big fan of the 'Ambush Alley' range of rules, but for Squadbased combat and for Vietnam…

I prefer Crossfire.

Blue Devil 8812 Feb 2010 5:39 a.m. PST

Ambush Valley is good but for squad-based, we use Cold war Commander. Miniatures of Chesapeake sells Ambush Alley Games.

Carl, the owner, favorite period is Vietnam.

Although in the states he does sell overseas.

Carl's got our stuff on a 10% off sale, too! That's a good deal!
