As if the amount of unpainted miniatures I already had was not enough I am tempted by the following 2 sci fi ranges:

Khurasan Miniatures Pelagic Dominate aliens:

Zombiesmith Aphids:

link

Those would be my first sci fi armies so I would like to collect your opinion/experience on basing and classifying 15mm sci fi for HOTT .

I was thinking of using 60mm front bases and leave some space in the front to represent close fighting in a world of laserguns.

Now for the above miniature sets I drafted the following classifications:

Aphids
-----------

Troopers classified as hordes

Heavy weapons classified as shooters

Bikes classified as riders

Mortar troopers as artillery

Aliens of the Pelagic Dominate
---------------------------------

Karkarine Infantry with hydroplasma rifles as blades

Karkarine Infantry with heavy weapons as shooters

Cnidarian Overlord Warriors in Powered Battle Dress with Anti-Grav Packs as Hero

Space bugs as beasts

Heavy anti Grav vehicle as behemoth

Light antigrav vehicle as flyer

thoughts?

Ahhh… sci-fi HotT, does it really get any bteer than that?

My concern would be Hordes facing a line of Blades, Shooters, and Heroes… the Aphids are not going to swing it by Artillery alone, they need some backup with a +4 factor. Consider changing the Artllery to Magician and Bob's yer uncle ;~)

Interesting. Heavy as Shooters solves the problem with lots of firearms in post-Napoleonic settings.

Otherwise go for either ASQL2 or FWC.

I beg to differ, they can certainly swing it, especially against heroes. I'd try and work in a Paldin into the army.

My Angel of Mons army has 9 Hordes (infantry), Artillery General, Flyer, 3 Shooters (Vickers mgs and ghostly bowmen) and a Paladin. The army does very well as the Hordes punch above their weight supported by the artilley, Paladin and Shooters pick off enemy flanks with help from the flyer.

Hott Works great for some styles of sci-fi. Here is a photo report of a recent War of the Worlds game using hott.

Might be fun to use the heavy grav vehicle as a dragon rather than a behemoth. You have to call in a request for it, if it arrives it hovers around killing things, but if it takes damage it returns to base.

I like the idea! HotT works well for a variety of battles, then you don't need to learn a new set of rules.
