I didn't say you could chamber them! A 45 is actually a 457 or 454, a 38 is actually a 357, a 44spl, 44/40, 440 mag all shoot bullets of similar mass but won't chamber.

Though 38 is commonly shot from "357". None of that affects the prejudice that we were discussing about being in a gunfight with a "4".

In any gunfight, first have gun. I "won" a fight with a .22 once, because that is simply what I had with me.

I find the Casull impractical FOR ME. I haven't met anyone who carries it, but have a few friends who have it in the sense of "mine is bigger" school.

And I have a couple friends who like the long flame out of their 45/70 pistols. I haven't seen them actually carry, though.

As I mentioned elsewhere, mostly when I am in the boonies locally, i am likely to be carrying an 1862 .36 cal Pocket Police. Out in the boonies, my likely threat is not human, and the 36 is enough to scare off the cat.

*NJH: If I'm out by myself communing with nature, then it's the 45 to scare anything away, and the 357 for plinking. On the range it's the 22 for plinking and 38s for practice. Big bore all the way.

In African Hunting, Robert Ruark gave the dictum, "Use enough gun." Peter Capstick said, "Use just enough gun."
As a professional hunter he had seen clients with a .460 Weatherby and it was too much power for them.
