A friend got this badge as a gift but he doesn't know what it is. I don't know if it belongs to a military unit, a football team or a political party, so sorry if this shouldn't be in the Modern forum. Here it is:

If a sword was placed in the upper-left quarter of the shield, it could represent the London Irish rugby team.

It definitely isn't military.

I'd say it's definitely civilian and something to do with some sort of English/Irish association,

other than that, no help i'm afraid,

"some sort of English/Irish association"

A shielded Cross of St George on a Shamrock could be viewed as a rather strong political statement, however it isn't one of the normal UDA/UVF logos, they tend to prefer the red hand (and cross of St George) although I've seen a red hand on a shamrock as well.

Personally I'd be a bit careful wearing something like that around.

can't see any loyalist's using the shamrock for anything at all to be honest, i've never seen it used by anyone but southern irish,

regards

jim

and just to pin my colours firmly to the mast before this gets political, I'm the son of a southern irish catholic and a northern english protestant, so i really have no axe to grind
with anyone 8-)

So the badge remains a mystery! Thank you.

Could be something related to the RUC, but I think the football/rugby link is more likely.
