Any interest in not-Daleks? I am quite serious when I say NOT Daleks, no wink involved. These would NOT be Daleks, but they would be inspired by them. Same overall pepperpot shape, monocular, gun and arm, skirt, but not recognizable as a Dalek. It would be modeled so that it sat slightly above the base, probably with little pegs on the bottom. Three pieces, a swivellable head, a posable gun, and the body. If it's got to be spot on or forget it, let me know, as I won't make it if so. Thanks! |

I'd go for them if I like the designs
flying pepperpots with bumps. An SF3D-ish version could be mighty tasty. |

These would be in your 15mm range? |

Dalek inspired sounds pretty cool |

Not bumps, way too Dalekish. Probably panels instead. Yes, MWright, 15mm for "Planet 15." |

Perhaps rectangular tiles
these could be replaceable armor pads link |

Rather see just about anything else. Daleks are borderline absurd as is, making something inspired by them but clearly not them, not my cup of tea at all. Now, make a high-tech grav-mobility one-seat armored capsule that doesn't look even vaguely like a pepper shaker and I'd be interested. Pelagic personal armored grav pods, perhaps? Something smaller than the Sea Wasp, but bigger and tougher than the standard jellyfish PA troops. |

Well, part of the charm of the daleks is how silly they are! Remember, this is for planet 15, not for my straightup sci fi line. The undersea empire is getting some big tough troops, as a matter of fact, bigger and tougher than the cnidarians too. And smart too -- they are mammals. But the cnids are smarter still, and no one questions who controls the PD. Edit: whoops, stupid me! I didn't note in my first message that this would be for planet 15. |

The Pelagic really need some multi tentacled guys to carry and load heavy weapons. Sort of a one creature mortar crew. |

Well, if they're intended to be goofy that's a little different, but I still don't think I'm in the market for them myself. Rather see not-Sontarans or somesuch if you must do Who. The Orca troopers I'm reserving opinion on till we see the greens – they sound a bit goofy themselves, what with the harpoons and all. Then again, they might be handy for gaming Jack Kirby post-apoc, be it Thundarr or Kamandi. And of course they're a perfect doomsday weapon in the Penguish Civil War. :) |
| khurasanminiatures | 07 Feb 2010 9:22 p.m. PST |
Well, that's certainly sensible! As to the harpoons: They don't have to have them -- they're going to have the option to have power claw hands and Gatling guns instead, as well as a one-shot anti-tank missile. Like em myself though! |

Maybe some sort of hybrid with those nasty flying spheres from the Phantasm movies. |

Yes, sir, two packs of not-Daleks with my next order, please. When will the Felid Support pack be available? |
| khurasanminiatures | 07 Feb 2010 10:03 p.m. PST |
Your guess is as good as mine! . It's all in the hands of my caster. |
| Sloppypainter | 08 Feb 2010 6:16 a.m. PST |
Sounds good to me
no bumps, one arm with gun, single eye on a stalk. Maybe a pair of eyestalks on top like a crab? |

Be very, very careful. The BBC is very, very jealous of it's IP and protects it quite active. |

Cheers for that; that's why they would be not-Daleks, rather than Daleks. Not sure I have to bother though, there's only been lukewarm response. |
| Zephyr1 | 08 Feb 2010 8:53 p.m. PST |
If you're going to have not-Daleks, then you'll need a not-Who as their adversary to complete the range. I'm sure the good Doctor (Seuss) would be flattered
! ;) |

I think a slightly modified dalek would not only be cool but a good seller. There are several other dalek-ish things out there thath ave been received well, but none in 15mm that I know of. You could even include a sprue of nozzles and add-ons to make – engineers, demo, etc, etc. Any chance of getting plane hands for the Orca? -Eli |

I'd also like to second the tentacled weapon-using aliens. Somethign along the lines of the old Octopoids from the Galacta line of old. They were laying flat with weapons out front and web-gear on their bodies. |

I'd also like to second the tentacled weapon-using aliens. Well, I make tentacled weapons-using aliens already. picture |

Poor response! Givvus a chance, please! Not all of us get on here every day! My largest planned army with you is a non-Kzin 8 of 8 for FWC. If you brought out non Daleks I'd be looking to reproduce my non-Dalek Irregular Imperial and Faction 6mm armies, plus skirmish forces. Don't forget, non-Daleks can appear in any theatre of war as "technical advisors". So you hit the RPG, Pulp, Weird WW2 markets as well. You could release them as a heavy weapons robot for your insurgents. A "personal transport" saucer would be a good vehicle! IF your planned scientist fitted the bill as a scratchbuild-. Semi-zombies in rags with head implants! There was a discussion on these on Dropship. I plugged for the Spider variant common on the web. C'mon, it's my birthday tomorrow, consider these and make my year-no, decade! |

I'd like a cross between a Dalek and the droids from the Disney film "The Black Hole" (awful film in most respects).(Dalek inspired top, droid inspired bottom). I suspect non who fans are just turned off by robots likened to Daleks, but would buy a model that want apparently inspired by Daleks-ifthey like what they see, no matter what the inspiration
if that makes sense. |

I'd like to point out again that nobody does Daleks, not or otherwise, in 15mm. Did this thread get crossposted to the pulp and VSF threads? Perhaps the scifi board with its grittier sensibilities isn't the best place to get the widest view of the appeal of such a product? -Eli |
| 28mmMan | 09 Feb 2010 10:41 a.m. PST |
Hey K'san how about coming at the final form of intent from a different direction? Start with the "head". An octopoid that survives within a support chamber with manipulators. Then consider a quick connect system that these aliens would use to switch out from various socket style "vehicles"
small "car", tank, hover craft, etc.. One of these "socket vehicles" could be a multi-function general use craft with a general look of The Brain picture picture and picture So your classic pepper mill shape which is not IP to anyone, and a top section of the above type
an octopoid with a couple tentacles and you have a safe + interesting original yet familiar form. Just a thought. |

I would buy not Daleks. Would you also make other not-Dr. Who villain races. Say like Not Cybermen as a non-example. :D |
