The Orks In Space, hence the name Orksis, are gone "a Viking". They are planning a raid on the Northern Europe Combine mining complex on Betelgeuse VII. The NEC company, Martian Metals, is mining for "Unobtainuium" in the barely habitable volcanic seventh planet of the red giant star Betelgeuse. Fortunately for Martian Metals, a Kompanie of the NEC 4th Space Marine Regiment (motto: "Weir sind Duetscher") were on a training mission in one of the many Asteroid belts of Betelgeuse.

Betelgeuse can be seen from Terra (Earth to you Flatlanders); it is the red star in the Orion Belt.

It was a great game of Beam Strike on Wednesday at the South Of The River Gang. This was the first time we used Beam Strike Armour rules and the new charts. We had the following players:

Hoomans:
Lt Alan TooIrish with a Squad of 10 Space Marines in an IFV M50 'Bad Dawg' which is an Anti-Grav APC.
Lt Big Chris "Hard as Nails" had the same as above.
Cpt "Sands of Mars" Cochran had with 7 Assault Dreadnaught Armor with a third IFV M50 'Bad Dawg'.
The Space Marines and Anti-Gav APCs were provided Casey, which to say were beautiful figures. The Assault Dreadnaughts were provided by Sheriff Lee who also refereed.

Orksis:
Mad Dawg Casey and Olemumsluv Benny were the Ork Warlords:
They had 3 warbands of 11 Orks one of whom was a NOBZ in Power Armor or what passes for Orksis Power Armor, and 4 Ork Medium Mechs "Stomppa". All the Orksis were provided by Sheriff Lee.

As usual in Beam Strike is quite a bloody encounter. The Orksis had landed their Orbital Assault Landers near the Space Port and had captured some Hoomans, before the Space Marines showed up. What followed was a general "Fur Ball'. The Stomppa were quite effective with destroying "Sands of Mars' Cochran's IFV M50 and knocking out "Hard as Nails" Heavy Bolters IFV M50. But it was not all the Orksis way, the Assault Dreadnaught's (AD) missile fire knocking out one Stommpa and immobilizing another one. During Melee the Stomppas were quite effective with a +14 versus the SM Assault Dreadnaughts +12 on a D10. However one Stomppas against three ADs resulted in one stomped Stomppa. With TooIrish rescuing ten civilians in his Grav IFV M50 and the Orksis "Broken" it was a definite Einst Zug des Kompanie Alpha des NEC 4th Space Marine Regiment victory.
However, 4th Space Marine Regimental Headquarters has detected an Orksis pretense in the 5th Asteroid Belt of Betelgeuse. next battle using Beam Strike will be a true infantry fight in Space. It will be using a "Star Map" and "asteroid" rocks for terrain.

With Casey joining the SOTRG, who is another Hard Core Science Fiction Nut, the unversed does not seem so lonely. Shades, he even knew where Betelgeuse can be seen in the Northern Hemisphere.

How did you come to choose Beam Strike as your favored ruleset?

SheriffLee08 Feb 2010 7:05 a.m. PST

We have been playing Imperial Commander for years, when the great grand son of Imperial Commander, Beam Strike, we switched to it. I also like Future War Commander, but only played a couple of games.
