A friend sent me this model to paint for him: link I am a bit uneasy about the assembly, since the base and backdrop are two flat plaques that merely butt together, with minimal "keys". I am thinking of using Gorilla Glue for joining the plaques, but want to minimize distortion from the urethane glue foaming up. I want to use Gorilla Glue for the strength, I do NOT like using CA and "accelerants" because the accelerant gives a much weaker bond. I do not want the model falling apart from dry brushing. The model has a resin tape recorder and camera, and interestingly supplies rubber bands for the straps. Does anyone have a better idea? I think the rubber bandswould disintegrate from painting, but if I am wrong, please let me know. My thoughts are to trace in pencil the footprints, and drill through the footprints for pinning. It looks like an interesting and fun project when I get around to it. |

John – I built this one about a year ago for a buddy, and its a really nice kit. I pinned the walls and used epoxy to glue them together on that kit – I am leery of Gorilla Glue for apps like this because of its expansion characteristics, but as long as the join does not get pushed out of true by the expansion, the hold it gives is good. I pinned the feet as well. As for the straps, I used sheet styrene strips rather than the suggested rubber bands. |

For heavy joins, why not just simply use epoxy? I used it on a resin model last night (FYI an Italian Semovente in 1/48 scale). COmbined with pinning (I'd use piano wire or something similar), and it won't go anywhere
For straps, if you're a wine drinker, the foil from winebottles is a long and true method for making straps in the model building world. Failing that, try actually purchasing lead sheet (from a hobby store, or an on-line vendor) to make the straps from. Damon. |

I'm with Az and Garand. Pin and use epoxy. If you're concerned about the holes for the pins not lining up then drill the holes a bit big and fill them with two-part epoxy put, add the pins, and then adjust the fit. Use a small bit of CA to fix the parts in place if you're worried about the parts shifting while the epoxy dries. I have some lead foil that you can use for the straps. I can mail a couple of pieces up to PA if you like. PM me if interested. Kevin |

For pinning, I was thinking of using the footprints to line up the hole through the base, and then holding the figure in place while I drilled back up through into the heel. I am a big fan of brass rod for just about everything. Thanks for the offer, Kevin. PM sent. |

Gremlins.com for Gremlins in the garage web site . they specialize in this type of model. Use epoxy to glue todether . some magic sculpt on the seams . Straps can be made from lead foil or Plain masking tape ( folded on itself ) maks a nice leather texture |

Hah! I have that kit, too. Love Kolchak. I haven't gotten to it yet because I haven't decided how best to paint that seersucker suit. I always use pinning and epoxy glue on areas like the wall and base. Definitely don't use the rubber band for the straps. As others posted, I have thick lead sheet that I use for applications like that. |
