Ok forgive my earlier "what is the deal with all this zombie stuff" type of threads
I have to admit I do like a good zombie movie. That said, not all zombie movies are good
in fact the majority are terrible. I picked up the DVD and was pleasantly entertained. Again comparing a given movie to a group of players in an RPG was helpful to appreciate the movie a bit more. It does have a nice flow for an RPG game. I really liked certain aspects and the rest was acceptable. Comparing it to a peer movie, Shawn of the Dead, the American view of a comedic turn is quite different than the British
which is not a revelation but interesting none the less. Shawn is funnier and little to no gore
Z-land has funny moments, a surprising dry approach to the jokes, and a cynical view overall. But it was worth picking up and has enough going for it to be game worthy
the idea of the rules (good cardio, double tap, don't be a hero, etc.) and "zombie kill of the week"
keeping a game a bit lighter with players one upping the next with more creative or over the top zombie kills. Anyway, it was fun. |

Not non-stop humor like Shaun of the Dead, but funny and enjoyable. |

I just watched it with my wife on DVD this past friday and would echo your comments. Enjoyable. |

I always felt it was a cross between Shaun of the Dead and the remake of Dawn of the Dead

Yes, good production value. Could it have been a tad darker? It would have been nice! No main character dies-disappointing for a zombie movie. Remember the classic formula
there shouldn't be any escape. |

I watched it last night too. It was a lot of fun. The wife hates zombie flicks but even she had a laugh or two. Also the preview for "Defendor" looked promising
lol |

It is a far greater film than "Citizen Kane". Not quite as great as "Snakes on a Plane", because there are no bodacious tatas getting bitten by snakes, but still a great film. |

"Snakes" is a classic and should have been up there with "Gone with the Wind" and "Streetcar" for an Oscar. They really overlooked it cause it is all political. |

In my perfect world, those who support "snakes on a plane" would become hosts to hundreds of bot flies

Finally got to see it over the weekend. I agree. It was a good zombie flick. Old Woody Harrelson is perfect in that role. Shawn of the Dead was better, IMHO, but this one is still very very enjoyable. Good zombie movies could probably be counted on one hand, this one gets my middle finger. |

Something in the water this weekend? I finally watched it too. I liked it, but there weren't many zombies in it. They wandered around pretty well unmolested for the most part. I also liked "the list" but there were a lot of things missing from his list, like covering up skin so you don't get bit and so forth. The cleverest part was that the kid was a survivor because he was so anal, not because he had any real skills. |

I love the "Zombie Kill of the Week" idea. |

Since "Zombie Kill of the Week" is the best kill of a zombie by the living, what is the best kill by a zombie on a living human called? |
| Schogun | 08 Feb 2010 2:12 p.m. PST |
The ending bothered me. Although the girls were very smart, they did some really dumb things. [No spoilers.] |

I agree
but I thought maybe they were smart when it came to humans
.not so much with the zombies! |

I think the strength to the movie (if you all don't mind my two cents) is that the characters within the film itself are working with a knowledge base and familiarity equal to those who are watching it. There is no pretense of needing to meet Maslow's hierarchy of needs everything is available even down to electricity and running water. The only thing left for the characters is to find a purpose be it seeking a twinky or making it to an amusement park. The complete break down and destruction of society as we know it is really nothing more than a minor nusance to these people and they in no way explore how they are going to rebuild society or what they should be doing in a huge ethical/morale sense. |
