I'm a fan of HBO's "Rome." And wanted to build units that resemble the LEG XIII, chainmail and basic helmets. Seeing several manufactures have Caesarian Romans, how do (28mm) the Foundry Gallic Legionaries, the Wargames Factory Caesar's Legions and the Old Glory Caesar's Romans compare with the new Warlord Games Romans? |
| axabrax | 07 Feb 2010 8:59 a.m. PST |
The Foundry Caesarian range is gorgeous but significantly larger than the Warlord stuff. I wouldn't match the Foundry Romans with the Warlord Barbarians for instance. Can't speak for Old Glory or Wargames Factory. |

I got back into Ancients just because I wanted the Foundry Caesarians. Lovely. Warlord -is that plastic um

This is the second time lately that someone has alluded to a new range of "Caesarian" Romans from Warlord. Is there something that hasn't been mentioned publicly, or does there continue to be confusion between WF and WG? Allen |
| Mick in Switzerland | 07 Feb 2010 9:55 a.m. PST |
Crusader Republican Romans are very similar in size to Wargames Factory Caesarian Romans. I think that they are both similar to Foundry. Warlord Imperial Romans are so much smaller that they are another scale

Ah but the Crusader Republicans as earlier than the Foundry Caesarians (although some minis work well with the later range, the ones with big feather crests wouldn't). Plastic, that's what I flex to buy nice metal minis! :-) Simon |

I perosnally believe that Companion Caesarians are the nicest figures for this period. Spectacular figures. |
BigRedBat | 07 Feb 2010 12:03 p.m. PST |
Surely the Companions weren't any nicer than their Foundry equivalents, though? Cheaper
but I didn't like the way their shields lacked a depression at the back to fit the legionaries' hand. Simon |
aecurtis | 07 Feb 2010 12:38 p.m. PST |
As it was impossible to obtain any, I consider them a myth! Allen |
| mashrewba | 07 Feb 2010 1:33 p.m. PST |
I always thought the Companions ones were a bit odd. Especially the over done shields. Seemed to have skinny legs too
and of course the fact that they don't really exist. This lot are rather lovely -not Caesarean of course picture -new Aventine stuff. |
BigRedBat | 07 Feb 2010 2:33 p.m. PST |
If anyone has any of the Companion Spanish, that also didn't exist, I'd love to trade for some. Simon |

I was about to ask if anybody has any news regarding the future availability of the Companion figures, but since this is obviously an absurd question, I shall remain silent. Still, if anyone happens to have three unused mythical blisters of non-existent C30 standing legionaries, I'd be happy to snap them up. |

Well, I guess you can try the online store: link |

"Well, I guess you can try the online store: link" Had a shot at it, Allen, but they wouldn't accept payment in sestertii. |
BigRedBat | 07 Feb 2010 4:35 p.m. PST |
romavinci, it is as if Companion never existed. Except that I have a couple of dozen of the useless shields. ;-) |

Allen and all, was looking to use the Warlord Games Auxiliary Contubernium and adding the rectangular scutum. |

I thought Figures in Comfort (UK) had a stock of Companion miniatures. I'm sure I saw them at a show up North. There was quite a lot but the company changed hands last year, so not sure if they are with the new owner? If anyone is after some Companion Romans Waylands Forge in Birmingham had a handfull of blisters, could help someone fill a small gap in their collection. They seemed to have bits of old stock as I picked up some lovely Artizan Spartans a few months ago. I'll check if the Romans are there when I pick up some paint in a couple of hours. |

Has anyone seen the Gripping Beast Ceasarian Romans? They have both armored and unarmored in either the Montefortino or Coolus helmet. Are they in 28mm? |
| Sir Sidney Ruff Diamond | 08 Feb 2010 6:25 a.m. PST |
Don't know why I didn' think of this but Scot did a comparison of Gripping Beast Romans on his site. I'm sure there's Wargames Factory plastics Foundry and Old Glory there too. link |

That would be at: link (not sure I understand the comments about plums and proponation
) and link and a review of the WF plastics: link Allen |

Rhino, IMHO any of the ranges mention will work for you. I have 1 Foundry legion and 2 Companion legions! I got the Companion when they first came out, but I would also like to finish my Spainish also like Simon. G.B.Marian are not bad either and W.F. plastics are not bad. I have 6 boxes of those! So good luck on your choice! Mike Adams |
BigRedBat | 08 Feb 2010 8:02 a.m. PST |
romavinci, the Companion range isn't owned by Marc Copplestone, unfortunately. The Foundry shields are better than the Companion shields, because they are easier to attach to the legionaries' hands. Cheers, Simon |

Last Question; looking at last years vendors from HMGS Cold Wars, would Gripping Beast figures be available? |
| romavinci | 08 Feb 2010 3:33 p.m. PST |
Thanks Simon, but Mark is not the owner of copplestone casting??? Sir Sidney ruff diamond, thanks for the info,i try it |
BigRedBat | 08 Feb 2010 3:55 p.m. PST |
Hi roma, yes he is, but not of Companion. |
