Hey all, I just added a blog post that'll hopefully be useful to some people out there -- a picture of all the figs that come in some of the Old Glory/Skytrex "Command Decision" French Infantry packs. This is something I'd wished was out there when looking to start my french army, since the manufactures can't be bothered to do it themselves. As I get more packs they'll be posted as well. Lemme know they could be made more useful. link |

As a manufacturer with most of their range photographed and online (inc WW2 French), can I take exception to the generalization of that remark? |

Nicely done, I especially like the feature of clicking on the picture for a larger size one which shows detail. It looks like you may have "borrowed" a technique I always liked with minifig USA. That is taking the casting as is and using a black wash to highlight the details. It really helps show the detail which many times doesnt "Pop out" in smaller photos yet at the same time shows the basic casting with the benefit of some superb paint job which may hide flaws or make up for lake of detal. |

As a manufacturer with most of their range photographed and online (inc WW2 French), can I take exception to the generalization of that remark? When I said "the manufacturers can't be bothered" i was referring specifically to the manufacturers of Command Decision – since there appears to be more than one (old glory, skytrex). Hence the plural. It was not intended as a slight against ALL historical manufacturers – tho any other ones that cant be bothered to photograph their products can feel slighted if they want ;) |

I've used OG French for most of my French army. For mortars I went with QRF. Vehciles and guns are a mix of OG, QC and QRF. Notable items not available from ANY manufacturer are VB gunners (I converted some from riflemen as pictured
drilling into the end of a 15mm scale rifle with a 0.4mm drill bit is fiddly), 37mm infantry guns (I scratch built mine) and 105mm Howitzers. |

"105mm Howitzers" Which one? link VBs are easily converted from OG/CD riflemen (I used kneeling poses) by attaching a short bit of insulation stripped from phone wire over the end of the rifle barrel. A QRF Japanese Type 94 37mm with the tube cut down makes a very acceptable 37mm infantry gun: link Allen |

No-one makes either of those howitzers, hence the generic term. To make VB launchers I cut off the bayonet, drilled into the rifle barrel and inserted a short length of 0.4mm insulated copper wire, glueing the insulation in a position slightly stripped from the wire. Thus they have the thin bit before the cup and a hole in the end. Perfect, but fiddly! I haven't seen one of the QRF Type 94 guns so can't comment. The Japanese did use a near copy of the french infantry gun as well. Scratch building wasn't that difficult. I really should put some pictures up somewhere. ;) Other French items no-one makes: 65mm mle06 Mountain Howitzer 75mm mle 19 or 28 Mountain Howitzer 105mm mle 28 mountain Howitzer 105mm mle36 gun FT17BS AMRZT3 White or AMD50 armoured Car AMD80 armoured Car AMD20 (Panhard 165 or 175) armoured Car AM Dodge "Tanake" armoured Car P19 Halftrack Lorraine 28 truck

Typical, you make a Panhard 178 and he wants a 175
:-) |
| Leadgend | 11 Feb 2010 10:39 p.m. PST |
That's the problem with the more obscure items. Not many people want them and those that do only want a few, hence no-one makes them. It still doesn't explain the absence of French 105mm howitzers, they were a common part of the artillery of the motorised bits of the French army. Lots of manufacturers of S35's and Char B1s but not many for the halftracks or artillery. |

More packs photographed: French Anti-Tank crew Germans in Greatcoats link i don't think i have any more packs that arent photographed ATM, so that'll be it for a while. The remaining unphotographed french infantry (artillery crew, tank crew, HMGs) are on order from warweb -- which could take a while =D |
