Well boys, I'm complety new here, so to understand a little who are my new partners in this site, please allow me to ask which was your favourite SF serie? a)Battletar Gallactica b)Star Trek c)Firefly d)Another one. If you had the time, I would apreciated if you wrote why is your favourite. By the way, mine are the three but if I had to choose one, I choose BSG. Many thanks in advance for your support. "By the way, mine are the three but if I had to choose one, I choose BSG." Armand, I would have to say that I agree with you entirely. I think it sounds very exotic to think that humans once lived in space and then lost that technology later. Part of the reason I like the original premise behind the Stargate movie. Dan |

Star Wars, since I like the epic movies, and the grand scale of things. Stories IV – VI, are my favorite, and the original is still probably the best, with the Empire Strikes Back a close second. The VI would have been good too, but I really dislike the overall silliness of the Ewoks. |

Thanks for your comments Mr. Cacique Caribe. I liked the end of the serie. It's not crazy to think that our planet had been colonized by alliens, in my so modest Opinion!. It would explain much of some amazing technological advances that had civilitations like the Egyptians, the Mayas, etc. But we never know
. or we did? Amicalement Armand |

Star Trek. I like all three TV series that you mention, but the genuine hopefulness for the future draws me to Star Trek more than the somewhat dystopian others. I like the fact that humanity is depicted as more or less cooperative, that we still desire to explore the heavens, and that we are guided by principles of freedom, peace and good will towards whomever or whatever we encounter, provided only that they return the same. The other series, however well done and entertaining, seem somehow smaller in comparison. |

IF I have to pick one of those three I go with Fire Fly, it had the most compelling characters I thought. I never really liked star trek all that much. Some of the shows were okay but it just seemed to lack something over all. The movies were better but it looks like we are just talking about shows here. |

When you say BSG, you have to be clear whether its the original or the "reboot." I like the reboot much better than the original (to prepare for the reboot, and get ready with my internet nerd rage, I re-watched the BSG:TOS; nostalgia indeed
). But if I had to pick one, it would be Star Trek. I recently started re-watching a lot of this (my dad got me Season 1 Remastered of the TOS, and I got my dad Season one of DS9; we swapped after we were done with our series'), and Star trek TOS had a lot of meat on it, and was MUCH more "SFinal" than later trek or a lot of TV SF

Another one, Babylon 5.I've never gotten as involved in any other TV series of any sort. "We stand between the candle flame and the Dark." |

Firefly and Babylon 5 are tops in my books. Firefly for the writing, compelling characters and view of the future. Babylon 5 for the epic scope, compelling characters and drama. |

Firefly. I enjoyed the entire 'space cowboy' idea and Adam Baldwin as Jayne Cobb was a dumb thug's dumb thug. LT |

Space: 1999 How could you guys forget bell bottoms and comm links? Star Wars; Episodes 4-5 were the best. Ewok silliness was just too much for me. If you going to defeat the Empire's elite, then there had better been a pile of teddy bear bodies all over that forest. Star Trek – Old School, baby when you blew away Klingons and then it was Miller Time (TM). |

While visually interesting, the military incompetence of BSG (reboot) annoyed me. Star Trek (especially TOS) was good, but the internal inconsistencies prevent it from being my favorite. Babylon 5 had great scope, some interesting characters, and a coherent plot (for the most part), but its scale was sometimes just too big. Dark Angel was pretty good, but not really futuristic enough to be a favorite. I enjoyed Andromeda, but the last season sucked. I don't get SciFi (or is it SyFy now?) so didn't see enough of their other shows to have an opinion. Stargate had good characters, and some of the stories were pretty good, but my favorite really has to be
Firefly--the whole "space western" idea, the great characters, and the human-scale more personal stories really caught and maintained my interest. Rob |

All of them were good. The cancellation of Firefly was a real loss to the sci-fi community. I'd have to say I liked the new BSG best through around the second season. It started going downhill after that. There were things I liked and disliked about the ending. I enjoyed Star Trek TOS, and Star Trek TNG (although TNG has not aged well.) Never got too into DS9 or Enterprise. I enjoyed Voyager more often than not. |

I liked Firefly the best. Good plots mostly with plentiful humour. A few of the background details put me off, but it was more personal & I could identify with it. Star Trek TOS had about 50% good plots & the 'one liners' between Spock & McCoy were entertaining. Voyager had better plots but less humour. Never liked BSG much. Patchy plots, & unlikly or unlikable characters. At least the original BSG was funny. Later seasons were horrible I admit. |

Welcome to TMP, usted encontrará a muchos amigos aquí. Ok onto the subject at hand, favorite TV science fiction series: 1. Star Trek: even while many have grief with forehead aliens, ultra politically correct vision of the future, and other issues
star trek was to TV science fiction what the Beatles were to music
so much was influenced by star trek that it has to be first. 2. Farscape: modern take with lots of color, weird aliens, and a completely different look
fills all my needs nicely with interesting story, characters, aliens, and plenty of unusual
you could never afford to take your eyes away or you would miss some small critter rolling down the hall as the main characters walked into screen or a scuttling furball behind the curtain
loved this series. 3. Babylon 5: tons of story, nice collection of aliens, cool ships, great effects for the time/TV, memorable plot devices, etc
high quality in a tight package. 4. BSG: old series for the time was a fun western with spaceships
circle the wagons! and Head West!
one of the most recognized villains that anyone could pick out a line up without even seeing them YouTube link YouTube link the new series because it was women friendly with the added soap opera drama and there fore the wife wanted to watch it as much if not more than I
science fiction greek (old school geek) heaven. 5. Dr Who: old because it was different and fun
the new because it was and is a great continuation and celebration of a theme
honoring the old with the new
some great stuff has come from BBC science fiction
and some seriously bad, yet I still watched, shows as well. 6. Firefly: simply the best example of Traveller the RPG in and media form
and that is a great thing
the perfect cross pollination of star wars and a classic American western
fantastic character development, and they main characters were not goody two shoes, they had secrets/flaws/and scars
great show
it needed to continue
7. Stargate: a complete package
good characters, decent stories and plots that lend easily to gaming
a clear strong show that has potential to continue in one form or another for a long time. 8. Space:1999
how could you go wrong here
regular people, and not too many classic heroes
just working stiffs dealing with what they got handed to them
Honorary Mention: all the old b/w serials
Buck Rodgers, Flash Gordon, etc. After writing the above I kept thinking of more
it is hard to list just a handful
it is like picking my favorite meal from my last 40+yrs of eating
to be sure I have favorite food types and memory tends to fill in blanks giving higher value to fair items
but the above is fair enough to give some
wait for it
wait
food for thought |

BSG (reboot)to start, as a running story goes, needs some work with it's military actions, Star Trek TOS, and Voyager because each episode was generally different then on to the next, SG-1 and SG Atlantis different stories with a general running story. the list goes on I just love Sci-fi shows. |

I'm also a big fan of UFO, and its just beyond the future setting. Seems like it could be believable to me. TOS Star Trek was quite good too, especially if one considers the age and limitations in and under which it was produced. |

Firefly – such great potential lost After that, I like the Stargate series Star Trek is OK – Babylon 5 was great – never did get into watching BSG, either in the old or new iteration, although the theological implications of God-fearing robots does make you think Star Wars – well, while the movies were good and I go like the Clone Wars show, I am suffering from over-exposure (the Little Prince has the entire basement covered in Star Wars Lego) |
| Howler | 07 Feb 2010 11:48 a.m. PST |
I grew up on Star Trek Old Series. Kirk, Spock, and McCoy are my favorite characters in a series as well. I just like how they're connected with each other. I'm also fond of the Clone Wars animated series. Tons of ideas for games and the action is non-stop. I also like how the stories are developed and fleshed out. I was crazy for BSG when it first started, but prayed for it to have a merciful death by its ending. Babylon 5 was fun to watch, but I got into it at the middle. Likewise, Firefly was also fun but ended to quickly. Stargate Atlantis was another favorite that I wish was still on the air. It's ending was kind of kooky though. |

Red Dwarf! Yes!!! Scheggin good times there, although I'm the only one in my family that gets it. I love the BSG Reboot for the fact that it's more up-to-date, although I do prefer the story of the Old Skool Galactica. I just find it so trite that robots ALWAYS rebel against us. What, is it something we said? o.0 Heck
I'm trying to get the wife interested in Caprica. Question now that we're talking about it- Who's the better Robot Bad Guy- Cylons or Terminators? Pretty much enjoyed all the Star Treks
even some of the Enterprise episodes (when they brought out the TOS stuff). I'm really enjoying the Special Edition TOS Episodes- with the remastered footage. It's like my favorite episodes all new for me. Star Wars is good and the Clone Wars shows are something me and my boy can enjoy together. B5 just seemed to drag for me. The monotony of trying to tell me a story when all I wanted to see was more Star Furies goin after it. Liked Firefly (especially Serenity), although I see little gaming potential that particularly appeals to me. Space: 1999 was one of "My Precious!" when I was a kid as well as Buck Rodgers and BSG:TOS. Cheers & Welcome! Mike |
| Covert Walrus | 07 Feb 2010 2:36 p.m. PST |
I find little to disagree with here. I can re-watch Firefly and B5 endlessly, while some of TOS makes me cringe to see it now; TNG is worthwhile for most of it's run, DS9 and Voyager have their moments and Enterprise just went off the rails after Season 1. SG1 is viewable and interesting as Atlantis can be at times. BSG was re-imagined with an agenda that collapsed totally, but early seasons were good and had potential for a lot more than it delivered. Dr. Who . . . Hell, it's a classic like Shakespeare, and the newer incarnations have earned the right to be considered worthy successors ( "Blink" and "The Girl In The Fireplace" most notably), though Torchwood is very hit-and-miss. Space:1999 was *not* worth losing a second series of UFO for, I am sorry, even though I love parts of it ("Dragon's Domain" for the main one ). |

Firefly for all the reasons 28mmMan cited. The only other two Sci Fi series I own on DVD are Battlestar Galactica and Enterprise. I like the grittiness of Battlestar. Enterprise is interesting – variable in quality though between series. Cheers Mark |

I loved the inter-character stories and sub-plots in Firefly, I think it's my favourite BUt it's tempered by the fact it was pulled. I loved the new BSG – BUT cannot say it's my favourite yet as I only got to see up to part way through series 3 (and NO, I do not want to know what happened thank you very much!). I haven't seen the new V but loved the original at the time. Never managed to get into Star Trek at all, just leaves me cold. Didn't even like the new movie very much. Never saw Space above and beyond, but would like too. Therefore a tie between Firefly and the new BSG, with Firefly just edging it currently. The fact that the missus really got into both makes them both BIG winners in my book :-) |

oops
forgot to say why. Many of the "The Twilight Zone" episodes were by one of my favorite writers, Richard Matheson, who wrote "The Incredible Shrinking Man" and "I Am Legend". "The Outer Limits" was similar to "The Twilight Zone", but more sci-fi oriented. I found "Star Trek: The Next Generation" more interesting than "Star Trek" and definitely more interesting than any of the other ST series that followed. TNG seemed more mature than ST. In fact, some of the ST episodes were downright silly. |
