Has General Pettygree and The Khyber Field Force arrived at The Secret Valley? Check it out, when you have five minutes, if you please.

Lovely stuff, no steam?!!!

Very creative use of the terrain pieces. Especially enjoyed the "secretive" bridge/gateway barring access to the "enemy" (I suppose).
The completeness of the forces; mule, elephant batteries and the large train of supply, is wonderful to see.

Forward the Sappers and Miners!

LT Gill's next words, "I've got a very bad feeling about this?"

Your blog is compelling reading/viewing.

It's quiet. Too quiet!

The best part about this?…There is no silly "officers sweet darling daughter", or "Lord So and So's thickheaded hotblooded daughter" rushing off and getting herself abducted, captured, or in a situation that requires rescuing once again….

Splendid blog!

I hope Murphy hasn't spoiled the next episode with his assumptions regarding the fair sex!
He might have tempted Pettygree off the true path…..
Which reminds me that the type of scenarios he refers to are quite common in "Sharpe" tales.
Coincidentally, "Sharpe" tales always have massive battles involving half a dozen scruffy riflemen, several hapless redcoat officers whose commissions were purchased by dear old Papa, aforementioned comely but ultimately useless wench, a troop or so of smelly French dragoons and copious quantities of smoke masking the total lack of any other extras.
As Ogdenlulimus points out above, the extras are all there, right down to the Sappers and Miners!(and always so smartly dressed, all of them).
Long live the Pettygree way of doing things.

Excellent as always, adventure, the majesty of empire, and all with just the right bit of foreboding— and a dash of humor (how thoughtful of the enemy to warn about falling rocks).

As to your question: I'd see if either of those fallen trees might offer a less-in-the-line-of-fire crossing to throw off any ambush, so as to secure both ends of the bridge for the engineers. Of course, I'd keep a few scouts on the near side to provide covering fire if called upon. Now, any volunteers for the crossing?

(P.S. to Murphy and General Jumbo: Now, now, what's wrong with a comely lass? I'm sure all the lads would have no objections to one at all!)

I second my comrade Parzival---

A few petites in petticoats perhaps, Pettygree. Wot, no harm if we 'ave some lasses along--eh?

Awesome and inspiring as always Bill!!

Gratifying too.
Good eye as we say in baseball, Parzival!
Thank you for suggestions.
Hopefully the next installment will be completed before the 16th instant since the table must be cleared off before that date.

Cheerio,
Bill
