It's been a while since I messed around with the 90mm figures that my son and I play with occasionally.

I like the mounted Crusader knight. Here's what he looks like in his stock pose:

Pretty dramatic, wouldn't you agree? Too extreme to make a unit out of, or even have two of them in the same place at the same time.

I bought a second one to convert into an articulated figure. Originally I only planned to have it swivel at the waist. But he looked dorky with his head angled to the right and twisting to the left at the waist. So I ended up articulating the sword arm and head as well. Here's what he looked like just before assembly:

I used 1/8th inch diameter stock plastic rod for the pins. Anything longer than c. 1/4" pin in each hole was overkill. In fact, I twisted his left arm off trying to move it the first time and had to redrill and make a new shorter pin.

Now he can be posed like this:

A few piccies of the two mounted crusaders in a skirmish with "El Heffé" and one of his men. The stock Crusader is facing the Saracen lancer, and the converted/articulated Crusader faces the warlord:

Very nice, I was thinking of cutting out the sword and putting a lance in that hand. Great job.

Great work, Doug! What glue did you use? No Christmas battle with the boys this year?

No Xmas battle. But a battle is brewing for late winter, early spring. My youngest son is going on "crusade" (a two-year LDS mission, heheh). And before he leaves, our kingdom is going to be invaded. I'm unsure of the scenario, but I'm working on it.

This conversion doesn't use glue, except in the sword arm: because the hole there isn't very deep I used super glue. All the other pin-to-hole contacts are just pressure fitted.

The other (fixed, i.e. non articulated) conversions that I do, where the part is drilled and pinned with wire, I use "Liquid Nails"….

A bit of thread necromancy, to test the new pic insert feature. Why does the old stuff not display too? Puzzling….
