Hi Guys. I'm just about to kick off a few Spanish regiments for 1808 and wondered how they organised their standards. Was it one flage per battalion or two (as per the Brits). Any help, greatly appreciated. Ray |

It better be one. That's the way Front Rank packaged their units and I just finished painting several. |

Two in 1808, one Regimental Borbon cross and one Colonel's. Hope that helps Regards |

from your photo (great painting) the flags have not changed much from the SYW. At the corner of the flaming cross are the provincial heraldry. |

Thanks guys very helpful. here's another for you Spanish buffs! Were they in the habit of forming Composite battalions of grenadiers or did the grenadier companies fight with the parent Regiments? Ray |

Hi I'm pretty sure they formed Composite Battalions of Grenadiers, but I'm sure the experts will shoot me down,.. "sigh" |

The issue of the Spanish grenadiers has been covered before: TMP link Rick |

Timurilank, from your photo (great painting) the flags have not changed much from the SYW. At the corner of the flaming cross are the provincial heraldry. They are nice-looking aren't they are? I think they belong to TMPer Arteis. Thanks for explaining what the corner devices are, I never knew that. Regards |

Another question for you guys. I read in Oman's history today a reference that seems to imply that each Spanish battalion carried two flags. He refers to a battle in early 1809 where the Spanish (fielding 23 Battalions) were completley routed by the French but only lost 9 standards out a possible 46. Can anyone confirm if each battalion did indeed carry two flags or were the standards only carried by the first battalion of each regiment? As ever, any help os very much appreciated. Ray |

Flags were issued at 1 per battalion. Royal to the 1st. However, if less than three battalions were formed, two flags would be carried by the 1st. |
