New blog from a long time lurker. It will offer my ruminations on painting, terrain, gaming and the like. Freshly launched, but I plan to develop it aggressively as time allows.

Here's the link:

You won't tolerate bithy attitudes or whining about pedantic details? I feel so… unwelcome. <sniff>

Wow, real friendly intro to that blog. Very welcoming. Let's get this straight – You object to the bitchy attitude and negative comments that are prevalent on the web, and your solution to this is to add to them by starting your own blog off with a bitchy attitude and some negative comments?

Kind of like starting a war against terrorism by setting a bomb off in a hospital, isn't it?

Maybe leading by example would be a better idea, and beginning all nice and friendly like?

Well, I'm off to a great start already.

I can see how that opening remark might seem a bit like the throwing stones in glass houses or whatever. But now that it's all said and done, I'm going to focus on painting and the like.

You're both welcome to visit again. Cheers.

Hey, abu's house, abu's rules!

What is the source of the sub in the photo background of the intro article? Looks very interesting.

abu iskander27 Jan 2010 6:50 a.m. PST

irishserb,

Thanks.

The sub is the 17" U-boat from Brigade Games. I believe that they also have or had one about twice as large. I'm thinking of using it for a raid scenario with the commandos in the cockle kayak to its front. I need to build some suitable Antarctic or Peenemunde Nazi secret facility to suit.

He's wrong about the cats.

Cats won't put up with people like that.

I personally have no problem with a strict "No whiners and pedants policy." If Allen gets chucked out onto the pavement occasionally, it won't hurt him.

The heck it won't. *I* don't bounce, you know.

And my cats sit on me. And the missus.

As I read the intro, the thought "someone is behaving like a very insecure Bleeped text" just sort of jumped out at me.

I don't have an issue with it--he's just layin' the ground rules.

Think what you like, and read or don't read the blog, as you like.

Seems like a fine start to an interesting blog.

So, you've dipped those 28mm musketeer figs, eh? What shade of dip is that, and did you go back over the details with lighter colors, or was the white cross on that one maintained so neatly despite the shading effect?

Mine never look that good when I'm done with them.

abu iskander27 Jan 2010 4:40 p.m. PST

Pygmaelion,

Thanks for reading.

The musketeers are dipped in Strong tone, and yes, I did go back once they dried and clean up the whites and blues. I've found that these colors need a quick touch up with the base coat color to un-muddy them. I also continue to do some highlighting on flesh areas prior to dipping (also on the Celt's hair), although in the case of the gladiators I simply used a preparatory wash with a Vallejo product. All the other colors are just neatly block painted.

I'll do a full step by step of some of the stuff on my table soon.

Middle aged men with lots of pussies? It's just the way I roll. ;-)

Best of luck with the blog and some nice painting on display.
