I have some OG15s Russian Mounted Jagers ,which I need to paint.

I am having difficulties locating a suitable reference which would describe their uniform and how best to paint.

In general terms, are they the same as other Jagers other than being mounted on horseback?

Any assistance or advice would be appreciated.

The best Russian uniform reference available in English is also free, Mark Conrad's translation of Viskovatov:

You will find complete details, although note the Mounted Jaegers converted from Dragoons and may have had some mixed kit in the interim.

Besides the uniforms issue, your message raises an interesting question: What was the exact use and behaviour of the russian mounted jaegers ?
This is something that is not clear for me.
As nvrsaynvr wrote, these jaegers were previous dragoons and it looks like they took part in the 1813 campaign.

But were they used like the french "chasseurs ΰ cheval" on the operational field or did they still behave and fight on a tactical level such as dragoons ?

What kind of horses did they use ? What about their weaponery ?

I remember a fellow wargamer who said to me once: "Alexandre wanted his own mounted jaegers just as Napoleon did".
It's a quick judgement but still… what was the reason behind the creation of mounted jaegers when you had the best operational units available at that time (i.e. cossacks) ?

Any clue ?

There were a couple of things going on. In addition to changing a number of dragoon regt.s into lancers and curraisers, all regt.s took on a uniform 6 squadron org. (I think, but have never confirmed, that this was 2 x 3 squadron battalions.) This was an increase for the heavy regts. and a decrease for the lt. regts. The result was a move towards either lance armed cavalry (lancers and hussars) or cuirassiers.

In 1812, the long arms had been withdrawn from most cavalry, either in recognition of the fact it wasn't useful, or to arm the many militias.

So you have increasingly specialized cavalry without long arms. The mounted jaegers would provide a specialization absent from the other regts.

In practise, I believe they were brigaded together and used pretty conventionally.

Indeed, it looks like they were brigaded together and used as a simple battle unit and not for light cavalry purposes.

I have found one reference about them acting on the tactical level as a brigade in 1814 (most certainly associated to dragoons brigades).

It seems that they were part of General Korf cavalry who took part in the fight against Pacthod column in 1814 at la Fθre Champenoise.

The question about the exact reason behind their creation remains open.
May be Alexandre understood that cossacks were just a temporary element and that he needed their equivalent in the permanent army ?
Or may be it was that the cost for supporting units of mounted jaegers was nothing compared to the cost for supporting dragoons ?
