The perfect bound copies for Brigade Game's great new post apocalyptic game have just arrived (and the printer shipped them to me too so I got my copy first!) but they will be at the Brigade Warehouse by this afternoon. If you have been waiting for the book to get in, now is your chance to grab it and some of the great miniatures that Paul Hicks and Ian Colwell have sculpted for it. This rulebook is 52 pages and contains 27 color pages filled with samples of the miniatures painted by Chris Smith and the Lead Adventure forum's Grimm (including some photos of Grimm's excellent table set up). If you are looking for a period, fast-play, gang warfare game, you should love this one. If you want to see more about how it looks, check out the figures being painted by Alex Bews (Professor Witchheimer) over on his Lead Adventure forum. You can order the book and miniatures here: link picture Rich |

The picture of the "8th Avenue Gang" looks pretty cool. I'd paint the jackets black and mod the revolver to a "zip gun" though, then they'd be right for 1950's-early 1960's gang warfare. Have you seen them in person Rich? Are they Brigade sized or larger like Copplestone? The larger the better, as I wouldn't use them for anything else except against each other, and gang names could be painted on the backs of the jackets like "Halsey Bops", El Quintos", "Fordham Daggers", and "Sinners". This looks like so much fun, and the figures look great. Gah! Too much cool stuff coming in too fast! |

Shadow, Mrs. Mulligan and I played in Rich's Atomic Cafe game at Historicon. Great fun and excellent figures. I picked up several packs of the figures in release at the convention and plan on picking up more as they come out. I'd say the figures are Brigade Game size (other than the mutants, who are even larger than Copplestone size--appropriately so). I was thinking along similar lines about ways to letter the jackets. I was even wondering whether consideration might be given (hint hint) to releasing some kind of comic decals scaled for the jackets (e.g., "Chico's Bail Bonds," "Del Vikings Fan Club," "I Like Ike," "38th Street Cruisers," etc.) Carter "Cool Daddy-O" Mulligan |

>>Del Vikings Fan Club,<< I'm a charter member. "Come Go With Me" and "Whispering Bells" were two of the first records that I ever bought. When I sang with an acappella group we did a pretty good cover of "Sunday Kind Of Love". One of the best places to sing that we found, beside the good old subway, was the old Pennsylvania Station truck unloading ramp. We unloaded newspaper trucks after school and sang between deliveries. >>Carter "Cool Daddy-O" Mulligan<< "Black slacks

So, is the $5 USD off coupon from the preview copy still valid? |
Rattrap1 | 23 Jan 2010 9:35 a.m. PST |
The book was delayed because of some additions which is why it did not make the end of year deadline. I will talk to Lon and get his official ruling, but I will try and convince him to extend the offer through Cold Wars. |

Very nice collection of miniatures/paint jobs
the inclusion of a few key hasslefree figures adds quite a bit of flavor. The Texaco and the Dinner are great. |

The six string samurai guy is a must own for me. Don't get me started on the bowlers! Great stuff and the best of luck on your new venture. |
28mmMan | 24 Jan 2010 8:35 p.m. PST |
No no, please get started. You like or do not like the bowlers? For me, it is the mooseketeers grimm.dirknet.de/index.php?id=30 that make me go hmmm? I was on board for the greasers, the brute, the Nixon for life, and even an Elvi
but who would want to have the Mooseketeers as their "gang". I have expect the "our gang" picture to be next
although, painted with glowing red eyes would be most creepy. I really was on board for the game as a whole
but at some point the creative team or director might want to self edit..a bit. Now I admit the mooseketeers miniatures paint up well, but why? I would have loved to be in the meeting that decided that mooseketeers would make a good gang to fighter with
after that, bowlers and roller girls just seems to make sense.
but either way, I wish the Brigade Games folks all the best and look forward to see what comes out next. |

>>I was on board for the greasers, the brute, the Nixon for life, and even an Elvi
<< I would have liked to have seen a chick in a pony tail, leather jacket and rolled up jeans or "Toreador" pants with the "8th Avenue Gang" instead of the woman who doesn't look like she belongs with that crew. One of their mothers maybe? I don't get that at all. Dunno why they stuck a mutant in there with them either. Something in the rules that brings them all together? |
28mmMan | 24 Jan 2010 11:36 p.m. PST |
Agreed, the girl is completely out of context
more of a 30's moll. I do not mind the brute
it is a post apoc setting after all
atomic mutants
a dwarf would be a funny balance to the brute
maybe a fast little guy? |
Rattrap1 | 25 Jan 2010 5:30 a.m. PST |
Agreed, the girl is completely out of context
more of a 30's moll. Not a Moll from the 30s. I did plenty of research on 50s fashion and wanted a female figure that did not look like another greaser. She fit the bill nicely. And as for the Mooseketeers, obviously you didn't realize how popular the Mousketeers were in the 50s. :-) And, the thing with the Mooseketeers is that they are a Unique group (maeaning you can only ever have one Marvin Moose on your team), so they can be taken with any other gang. |
CAPTAIN BEEFHEART | 25 Jan 2010 6:01 a.m. PST |
Since asked, I love the bowlers. "they were my best bowlers
." The whole line of figures is a delight. Forget those mohawks, DAs and beehives are much more apocolyptic <sp> Seriously, the end off WWIII shouldn't be (serious). Oh, in this universe is Elvis still the king of Vegas? |
Rattrap1 | 25 Jan 2010 8:03 a.m. PST |
Elvis never made it to Vegas. He happens to be the King of Nashville, though. :-) |

>>I did plenty of research on 50s fashion and wanted a female figure that did not look like another greaser.<< I'm not trying to be argumentative, but why did you want a female that "did not look like another greaser"? I thought that was the the theme for the group? I would have liked to have seen something like this: picture or this: picture or the chicks from this flick: link |

Rattrap1 | 25 Jan 2010 8:55 a.m. PST |
I'm not trying to be argumentative, but why did you want a female that "did not look like another greaser"? I thought that was the the theme for the group? Because there were already multiple models in jeans and shirts. Some with jackets, some without. I wanted a female figure who looked like she could run the gang through brains if the leader fell. She still fits the theme, without having to look like one of the guys. |
The Shadow | 25 Jan 2010 9:07 a.m. PST |
>>Some with jackets, some without. I wanted a female figure who looked like she could run the gang through brains if the leader fell.<< I don't get it. No chick ever ran a gang of teenaged boys in the 1950's. The girls did what they were told to do. That was the culture. It wasn't until after we married them that they told *us* what to do. LOL |
Mulligan | 25 Jan 2010 10:09 a.m. PST |
Shadow: Sun Records fan indeed. To quote John Lennon: "Before Elvis, there was nothing." There would have been no Elvis without Sam Phillips. Mulligan Come to think of it, Atomic Cafe needs a rockabilly gang. I can envision a whole campaign called "The Payola War," the factions of which would include our rockabilly legends (Jerry Lee Lewis casting great balls of fire with a flamethrower, perhaps?), DJs, and independent producers versus the sinister "Suits" and a mysterious character known only as "The Colonel." |
28mmMan | 25 Jan 2010 10:54 a.m. PST |
In the end it is a fantasy game with a ruined future and a '50s theme
so adherence to the '50s look and form is not an exact requirement. That said, the girl in the gang is wearing a classic late '30s early '40s ha picture
I think that is what is so distracting for that miniature; but again it is a fantasy setting, so what the heck right? As for the Mooseketeers, I grew up with family that dealt with Walt and Roy on a daily basis
lifetime passes to Disney
etc., and yes I can appreciate the popularity of said 'keteers
I even like the miniatures
they are wacky and fun
just not my vision of a functional gang, a bunch of kids. But that is an opinion, nothing more. More specialty characters that focus on the theme would be a blast; Colonel Grinder the Fried Chicken Mogel with bucket bombs Dr. Atomic aka Robbie Oppenheimer with his rad zombies/dogs/agents The Rat Pack
maybe with rats
singing necromancers The Three Stooges
well four or five So you see I am on board with the wacky and zany
I was just saying that in a skirmish game I don't want to game with Spanky and the Little Rascals
though, adult versions of the same would be fun. I would have found the adult versions more to my liking, but I do not the market make. A group of guys dressed up as the one miniature is would be funny
or even dwarfs/midgets. I am sure it is just me
Keep the wacky coming, I am looking forward to see what comes next. |

>>Sun Records fan indeed. To quote John Lennon: "Before Elvis, there was nothing." It was a pretty dumb thing for Lennon to say. He might have been a musical genius, but he could be a real jerk sometimes too. He was well aware that early Rock & Roll AKA Rhythm & Blues was in full swing long before Elvis Presley cut his first single in 1954. The records just weren't promoted to white listeners. Without vocal groups like The Clovers and the Orioles, single artists like Wynonie Harris, and seminal R&R records like "Rocket 88", there would have been no Elvis Presley. I ain't knocking Sun Records with their great stable of artists and catalog of music, and Presley was *very* influential in getting the music out to a broader audience, but Lennon should have given credit where credit was due. >>Come to think of it, Atomic Cafe needs a rockabilly gang. I can envision a whole campaign called "The Payola War," the factions of which would include our rockabilly legends (Jerry Lee Lewis casting great balls of fire with a flamethrower<< Man you're crazy Mully. LOL *Good* crazy though. I like that idea a lot better than "Moosekateers" or guys with bowling balls. |

>>the girl in the gang is wearing a classic late '30s early '40s ha picture
I think that is what is so distracting for that miniature; but again it is a fantasy setting, so what the heck right?<< I would rather have had a more useful mini for the theme. >>But that is an opinion, nothing more.<< (Shrug) Sure. What else do we do except talk about miniatures. It would be silly to praise everything that's produced and counterproductive to the producers if we never criticized a product. They'd never know what we like and don't like. |

An all Elvi gang would fun picture picture (mini Elvi) picture (post buffet) picture picture (yikes) There are a handful of Elvi miniatures out there, a gang of them would be fairly easy. And it would fit the theme
popular art/music imagery carry great weight in the minds of those left after the big blast. |

Hillbillies There are a number of minis out that fit this bill already. Shotgun toting, moonshine drinking, summer teeth (some are green, some are brown, etc.), cute daughter that can wrestle bears, big lug boys, granny (a witch
she wants your eyes for tonights stew) picture picture picture and this guy is a must have picture I think there is a 1/2 zombie mini that would do well for this one |

>>"What are you rebelling against?" >>"Whatta ya got? "I love you Johnny. I was lookin' in every ditch from Fresno to here hoping you was dead" and "I hate cops!" I remember being surprised when I saw "The Wild One" and "Rebel Without A Cause", both on their 2nd run in the late 1950's, that there was no Rock & Roll in either soundtrack. Rock Around The Clock" played during the opening credits of "Blackboard Jungle" seemed dangerous and sinister in that setting. |
