Yes, its just as unreliable as it was when it was new so the damn thing costs a lot of money to keep it going. For those of you that haven't been down to see it thunder by then I highly recommend it. Anyway, the reason for this post, an email from the museum.

We need your help to save the last working Tiger Tank in the World.

The Tank Museums Tiger 131 is as arguably the most famous tank in the world and must be conserved for the benefit of future generations.

Please send this email to as many of your contacts and friends as you think will be interested. If it reaches 40,000 people and everyone donates £1.00 GBP we will be able to keep this unique historical artefact in running order for years to come.

I imagine they could make a lot of money if they gave people the opportunity to ride in, or be photographed in the vehicle.

Of course, the money for the paint budget would need to be increased, but that should be easy to come by.

In the States, they do that with B-17's and B-24's, in order to keep them flying.

I'm happy to donate and see history preserved.

Seems like a badly-designed vehicle that consistently broke down ought to be preserved in exactly that condition.

French Tiger is Tiger 2

UK Tiger is Tiger 1 and as far as I am aware the only running Tiger 1

Not sure how many Tiger 2 are running.

Reading Jents at the moment and Tigers [and Panthers] were no where near as bad as many people make out regarding reliability.

UK Tiger repairs are expensive because new comonants have to be specially machined as they are no longer available!!

The extended warranty cover was rather too expensive to buy :)

A worthy cause regardless … IMO …

Going to try and have a whip around at our club and see what we can give toward it. I saw it last year in June. Both the tank and museum were great. A most enjoyable afternoon.

Thank for the heads up Scrivs, i was lucky to see this roll by at Tank Fest the year before last, a real delight.

Did my time as a Patton Museum volunteer, thanks. So did the missus. But now is not the time for us to be resourcing that sort of thing.

Au contraire, I'd say now is just the time to resource these things. You don't have to resource enough to complete it, just enough to keep it going into better times.

If you don't then it will either be forgotten and discarded or twice as expensive to resource later.

Thanks, but I think I'll be buying groceries, keeping the heat on, and paying the missus' medical bills, if you don't mind.

Ok, if it's a choice between food or tank then I'll go for food too.

If it's a choice between tank and £20.00 GBP of miniatures I'll probably never get round to painting, then I'll go for tank.

But with the Tank you can take all of the food you want at gun (88 mm) point!

Many thanks to all who've donated to the appeal. I'm on the 'Friends of' set-up and everything counts to keep the old beast trundling. The Museum has been fortunate to get some serious development lately and a massive re-build of the site has seen thousands of extra visitors. But as with all funding it was specifically ringfenced – so that meant very little ever goes on specific asepcts of the Collection.

Your support is greatly appreciated.

Well, a whip round I did at the club, generated another Ten pound donation which I will be posting off this week coming.
