I know this is a bit of a general question but here goes. Am I right in thinking GW Titans have multiple occupant crews and Battletech Mechs have a single pilot? In their minimum and maximum size types, How do the various Mechs compare with the various Titans? Does any difference in size explain the difference in crew numbers? Thanks in advance |

I believe Titans are considerably larger (scale) than Battletech Mechs, and yes Mechs are a single pilot. |

Dakka Dakka mate advised me on this .check it out quite a good W.I.P Reaver for scale there is a nid in the later images. link |

Two entirely different technologies and settings, at least one of which is pure science fantasy. Expecting an explanation for differences to make sense is pointless, but a comparison is possible: According to wiki (which I'll trust for imprecise geekery research) BTech mechs max out around 17 meters tall and 100 tons mass. They need a single pilot, although a rare few have a seat for a second person as a trainer or "command" design. Their closest parallel in modern military terms would probably be a one-man tank of sorts. By comparison, a Warlord Titan (the biggest relatively common type) stands over 40 meters tall. How much they mass I don't know or care to speculate on, but it's worth remembering that they have limited antigrav "suspensor" tech in the Imperium, and might use such to reduce the absurd ground pressures something that size would generate. A Warlord carries a crew of at least 5 people (a princeps "pilot" and 4 moderati "weapon operators") and probably more depending on which iteration of the fluff you prefer. Some of the crew is plugged into the machine on a semi-permanent basis, and some might actually be dedicated servitors (essentially organic robots/cyborgs, often made from convicts). A Titan also has a machine spirit of its own, which is essentially a semi-volitional AI capable of limited activity on its own – mostly instinctual fighting responses. Even a small scout Titan is a major combatant, and a Warlord is best likened to a walking warship in terms of combat power. Oh, and speaking of Dakka links: link That help any? |

"By comparison, a Warlord Titan (the biggest relatively common type) stands over 40 meters tall." Depends what source you go by, I know a lot of people still set a lot of score by the original Adeptus Titanicus which put Battle Titans at 12 to 24 meters and even Emperors at only 30 meters. |

They should have sculpted the Forgeworld Titan minis an awful lot smaller, then. The Warhounds and Reavers give us an unarguable size to go by, and it's not small enough to put a Warlord at a "mere" 12 to 24 meters. Then again, Squats are dead and there's no such thing as a Zoat or Fimir either. GW is fond of revisionism. |

Yes, the Warhound only has a one man crew, based on the old fluff. But I think 3 in the new fluff. And the Reaver, I'd read 3 and 5. The Warlord has 5 as mentioned. I'm not sure what the Imperator's crew complement is ? But it would be much larger then the Warlord's. Plus the Imperator can carry troops in it's legs too. Of course I have to agree, the weight of these things would be "absurd" ! Not to mention the fact that they are walking targets regardless
When it comes to "fluff", I agree
G/W changes it regularly and makes it up as they go along. Reminds me of Orwellian "New Speak"
And yes, the Titans are like 1/500th scale vs. the rest on Epic which 1/300th. However, the rumor is Forge World is working making a Titan vs. Titan game in 1/300th. To be in scale with the rest of Epic. Even though neither G/W or F/W actively support Epic. I'm sure if this comes about, the cost of a 1/300 scale Warlord or Imperator will cost a kidney or another body part

Okay, I know next to nothing about BTech, but yes there are entire crews serving aboard Titans. There are 4 or 5 on board a warhound, and a crew equal to a small ww2 era submarine on a warlord/imperator. Also, the Reaver in Feet up now's link is scaled incorrectly. Having seen a Forgeworld Reaver and a papercraft reaver made from the same templates, I can tell you that the reaver that those templates make is the size of a warlord, or even larger. |

Well one way to tell of the crews' size based on current "evolving Fluff " is looking at the F/W 40K scale WARHOUND & REAVER. Since they have the interiors at least in the head
And Yes
we've had this discussion on Tac Cmd. The sizes of all the 1/300th scale Titans will all be considerably LARGER then the original 1/500th
And where in the fluff would you find the size of a Imperator's Crew ? |

Thanks for the links gentlemen. I'm building some two-legged tanks for none-40K/none-Bmech rules but wanted some idea of crew/carrying capacity. From what I've seen the Reaver is approximately 19-20m tall, which is comparable with the largest Mechs and yet (even with its machine spirit) requires more crew. I believe that makes the Warhound comparable to many of the Battlemechs in size but again, more crew required. Hmm
lots to ponder. |

FWIW: I use the 'Skullz' Adeptus Mechanicus set as My Titan crews; The Top Row is my Reaver (Tall-Hat guy, the Magos, is Princeps) and the 2nd row as my two Warhound crews

I hadn't realized that most mechs are only as big as a Gundam. And here I thought they'd be bigger, that the mechwarior would really be dwarfed inside them. |

Always go to Tac Cmd for anything Epic or 6mm Sci-fi for that matter
