As there were no item of clothing called "plunderhosen" you will not find any Landsknechts wearing them I'm afraid ;-) However the best Landsknechts wearing the pluderhosen worn from the mid-16th Century the best choice is Grumpy's recently released range. link |

second grumpies. ERM sell them in the UK |
Sloppypainter | 15 Jan 2010 8:55 a.m. PST |
Nope
plunderhosen -- the garment in which they hid their plunder after sacking a town
lol. Thanks for the correction. |

Venexia make brilliant Landsknechts, and their opponents as well. |
Keraunos | 15 Jan 2010 10:01 a.m. PST |
Venexia are Italian Wars. A totally different looking chap. |

I rather like the Venexia ones, and the Lands did fight there during the Italian Wars. |

seesh. Italian wars landsknechts: picture tight or bare legs. French Wars of Religion Landskechts – Pluderhosen link really low baggy trousers. kind of like the difference between a bicorn and a shako. |

According to the online German/English dictionary, pluderhosen translates into "bloomers". |
Daniel S | 15 Jan 2010 5:13 p.m. PST |
The term is impossible to translate as there is no english word for that particular garment. Hence the online dictionary's incorrect/funny translation. The "plunderhosen" term is of much later date and never used by professional historians. My guess is that it originated in the SCA or a similar organisation whose members misunderstod the original German "pluderhosen" and changed it to fit their own interpretation. Actually trying to carry around plunder inside a pair of Pluderhosen is far from easy, not only would it be hard to put the loot inside as the hose are laced to the doublet with numerous "points" link made of cloth or leather. You would also risk tearing the expensive fabric not to mention that it would become increasingly harder to move with hose full of stuff which strikes your knees as you move. Far better to load up the boys and the women of the Fähnlein with the loot. |

Museum Miniatures make nice looking ones. |

Thanks for the input, gents. BTW
"plunderhosen" in which to carry plunder was a joke
sorry, I'm no comedian. Pluderhosen is, of course, the correct word. I think, however, I like the looks of the Italian Wars chaps the best. Thanks again. |

In which case look at Landsknechts by Minifigs and 15mm.co.uk as well! Some real gems in their ranges: picture picture Cheers Mark |

I like the looks of the Italian Wars chaps the best. For the Italian Wars, Venexia are by far the best: link [scroll down 2/3 of the way]
and, I've collected from all ranges: Museum, Essex (even the old Mike's models/Essex), ERM (or is it LKM or Freikorps 15???), Falcon UK, Minifigs, Old Glory 15s,
and probably one or two others. It comes down to individual taste, etc., but you cannot go wrong with Venexia for variety and sculpting. |

I second the above second for Grumpys! |

I don't know if they are "the best" but Roundway makes some nice Italian Wars period landknechts. They are also easy to paint considering the slashed clothing, plums and all. |

Thanks for the posts. The VeneXia figures look fantastic. Can anyone point me to retailers/distributors here in the US? Regards, Mark |
