Guess what I ran across while cleaning my Game Closet?

"Tac Ship" by GZG. A Long-lost 3-page photocopy of Tuffley's Space Fighter combat game. (Jon sent it to me about 13 years ago).

It's Hex based and quite elegantly simple (And included fighter construction rules).

Steve Blease11 Jan 2010 8:56 a.m. PST

IIRC it was printed in one one of the early editions of the SFSFW's Ragnarok, Jon being a founder member…

TheCaptainGeneral11 Jan 2010 11:13 a.m. PST

Oooo! That sounds cool! I wonder if the public can see it again…

bobblanchett11 Jan 2010 11:25 a.m. PST

wot he said!
I trawled the internet archive in vain looking for retro-thrust!

would be a lovely curiousuty if jon uploaded his early work for his disciples/acolytes erm customers to enjoy!

Only Warlock11 Jan 2010 11:33 a.m. PST

I fired an email to him prodding him to see if it might see the light of day again…

I would love to see it, as well as the original Full Thrust as well (only saw the cover of that one – remember it as being on orange paper, but the spaceship drawing looked very nice).

It was definitely in Ragnarok, I had the issue. Still do, probably. Somewhere.

Steve Blease12 Jan 2010 3:05 a.m. PST

"It was definitely in Ragnarok"… I suppose we could ask the SFSFW webmaster to put it up on the website.

unitrecon12 Jan 2010 4:50 a.m. PST

Ask Jon nicely and I'm sure he'd bung it on as a free PDF.

Steve Pugh12 Jan 2010 1:50 p.m. PST

I suppose we could ask the SFSFW webmaster to put it up on the website.

I was thinking the same thing. ;-) I'll go and ask myself and see if I have time to put it up this weekend…

I doubt it, you're pretty busy.

onya steve.
i'll shoot this over to the SCN, GZG-l and yahoo FT lists as well
EDIT: oh and if you're not an SFSFW member, you should be its not for profit fan run and they have a cracking magazine in Ragnarok, "the 'Rag".. I just joined this year and wished I'd done it years ago..

Shows what some feedback can acheive- thye are a nice fairly simple set of rules, and well playable; Good to see them back in circulation!

Vaguely surprising that Mister Tuffley didn't put them on his own site. He is well known for having excellent free rules sets there, and this one is certainly worthy.

Perhaps he just doesn't want to deal with the inevitable call for larger fighter minis to play them with. He's already got enough on his sculpting bench to keep him busy till Doomsday as is. :)

Read these through when they were posted on the SFSW site. The damage system is very clever, and I may have to steal it.

Just returned form demonstarting it at the Battlecry games convention . . . Lots of fun, and a few players came along to try.

Alas, 'this goo.gl shortlink has been disabled. It was found to be violating our Terms of Service.'

However, they can bite us, as the original is still on the SFSFW (Society of Fantasy and Science Fiction Wargamers) Ragnarok (club magazine) site that Steve Pugh mentions above: sfsfw.org/a/03/tacship.php ;->=
