I have quite a few 28mm figures to sculpt in the next few weeks, and even Christmas drinking fails to provide enough corks to act as bases. Any ideas where to buy corks en masse?
Tried a hardware store today; no go.

Lol…If you head to your local craft store you will find corks in the candle department, and home decor departments. They will often be among the decorative stones, glass beads and such.

I had the exact same question a few days ago and after posting on the 1listSculpting forum, I got a lot of helpful replies.

Since I'm experimenting with using sculpey to bulk my armatures (and I include an integral base), I found pulling and pushing a Work In Progress in and out of a cork counter-productive. Someone suggested using two blocks of wood with a nut and bolt arrangement to make a little hand-held vise type set up. I'm sold on the idea and have made three which I'm using for three 28mm sculpts right now. I find it easier than corks or rubber erasers or whatever.

Absolutely. A homebrew shop will have them, and cheap.

Ebay has many people selling them by the hundred for under 15 cents apiece (that includes factoring in shipping costs):

It's a question of volume. You simply aren't drinking nearly enough wine. grin grin

Check out any decent restaurants – they throw out hundreds of corks from wine & 'champaign' style bottles. Some places keep the corks separate to give to charity groups or for re-cycling. A polite request to the staff could result in a shopping bag or two for corks for nothing.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am in a small town at the moment, so the restaurant idea might be the most realistic option.

Hrothgar, I never drink….wine.

Damn, that didn't come off right; we need a Dracula font.
