I am working on "Bloody Omaha" Boat sections, but don't want to pay $13.50 USD x 6. I just want to add these teams to my Yanks and use "normal" Yank infantry.

Peter Pig makes US Engineer flamethrower teams, though it looks like there's only 2-3 per pack, along with satchel charges and mine detectors. Their Marines have nothing but flamethrowers, but you could probably work on them a bit to look appropriate, so long as you don't mind the operatic look. Then again, it might be just as easy to use green stuff to add the flamethrower to an already correct figure.

Bangalore torpedoes should be easy enough to model if you've got other figures in poses that are close enough already.

I can't find any detail on what's in the Old Glory engineer packs.

Do you already have the "normal" guys on hand, or are you starting from scratch?

I already have bunches of BF Yanks. Let them go in without assault vests. grin

Ah, I was editing it when you wrote that. Perhaps that's part of the bug?

I just added the bit about being unsure of the OG engineer packs.

Do you need flamethrowers in any quantity? Anecdotal evidence of the Omaha landing suggests that many of the flamethrowers were dumped by their operators who reverted to oridnary riflemen.

Perhaps. I hit the [!] button to let Bill know.
What was there previously had no relation to what you had originally posted, but it's back now. Of course! grin

Great. I'm sure I'll be Dawghoused now. Thanks! :)

Meanwhile… I can't pull up Battlefront's site today. Any idea what's in the various US engineer packs?

Don't forget to use rules that make your units assemble the Bangalores like they did in "Big Red One".

Dropship Horizon26 Dec 2009 8:58 a.m. PST

The 'Engineer' poses are mostly clearing mines or riflemen. No bangalores, explosives of flamethrowers.

Quality Castings makes a set of Engineers with both, plus figures placing demo charges.

Rudysnelson26 Dec 2009 10:03 a.m. PST

I too carry a lot of Quality castings by battlehonors. There veriety of specialty troops and accessories is great. but i have not seen bangalore torps.

Would not pipe cleaners with close meshed bristles that have been sprayed OD work for laid torps?

aecurtis Fezian26 Dec 2009 10:12 a.m. PST

Haven't seen Quality Castings'.

Unaware that Old Glory (Command Decision) makes a US Engineer pack. Skytrex makes a ten-man squad of "US Assault Weapons in Greatcoats" (which they don't do in the bigger bags) which includes one flamethrower operator:

Eureka makes three USMC flamethrower operators which can be purchased individually:

As they are wearing gaiters, and as tey size very well with your Battlefront US infantry, they would be a very close match indeed.

I leave the complex task of scratchbuilding a Bangalore torpedo (or sections thereof) to your considerable expertise:

As Mark noted, Battlefront's combat engineer pack contains a few useful mineclearing poses, but no Bangalores or flamethrowers:

The new BF airborne engineer pack does contain a few Bangalores, if scratchbuilding is too great a task:

Apart from the different uniform, etc., they will look like they were recruited from someplace other than the rest of your infantry: Tuckborough, perhaps.

Not counting the boat sections for D-Day, Battlefront's party line has been that flamethrowers were not issued to US frontline infantry from their normal keepers.

I wonder how many Dianas they've sold…

Allen

John the OFM26 Dec 2009 10:25 a.m. PST

I have painted two Dianas for a friend's DAK. He wants more. grin

aecurtis Fezian26 Dec 2009 10:38 a.m. PST

OK; he's got a few to go, then.

Allen

John the OFM26 Dec 2009 2:33 p.m. PST

Hmmm. It looks like a few Peter Pig Engineers may be useful.

Satchel charge is useful as is, or could be converted.
That and the Eureka guys.

Maybe the mine detector guy can be useful if I cut the mine detector away and drill put his hand for some brass rod. Or, not. There are quite a few "other" poses athat would work with brass rod.

Thanks, all.

John the OFM26 Dec 2009 2:39 p.m. PST

Ah, I see from Wikipedia that it is an "M1A1 Bangalore Torpedo". I better get some specs before I go around cutting brass rod any old way…

nazrat26 Dec 2009 4:10 p.m. PST

I've got just two BF models out of their old packs that you are welcome to if they would help. They are prone and both have the bangalore tubes in hand. Let me know.

aecurtis Fezian26 Dec 2009 4:16 p.m. PST

I wasn't going to try to freak out John with added complexities, or have hm muttering about things he can't have (which some of us do…). You're a nice guy, Jerry!

Use flush cutters, John; and use eye protection.

Ch-ch-ch-Chia!

John the OFM26 Dec 2009 4:55 p.m. PST

Thank you, Naz. PM sent.

Allen, the poorer your eyesight, the more paranoid you get over eye protection.
I stand in the other room when I cut wire…

AngusIII26 Dec 2009 6:29 p.m. PST

I have some from the Assult Company box that are primed and not painted yet- there are two different poses (the prone as mentioned and some kneeling). I could part with a few depending on what you need. I want to keep the flamethrowers.

John the OFM26 Dec 2009 7:38 p.m. PST

Group hug…
You guys ae great.
