Do you wonder how they are doing?
Does their new owner treat them well?
Are they winning?
Has he painted them yet?

The Tin Dictator24 Dec 2009 9:46 a.m. PST

No

Delthos24 Dec 2009 10:09 a.m. PST

No, but I have regretted selling some rule sets I've sold before and been forced to purchase them again. Usually at a higher price than what I sold them for.

DeanMoto24 Dec 2009 10:13 a.m. PST

Nope; but I've regretted not getting figures that were sold at past "flea markets."

Jovian124 Dec 2009 10:13 a.m. PST

Um – people have flea markets with gaming stuff? Only thing's I've seen were some at a garage sale – and they thought they had collectible gold and wanted 5 times the value of it – even if it was old stuff.

rusty musket24 Dec 2009 10:22 a.m. PST

I have sold figs and regretted it. Missed them? My old Ral Partha Elf army I do miss. It my only artistic army.

I have had regrets here and there.

I have also seen some stuff I have sold end up on eBay a couple years after I parted with them. That's a little angstish.

Farstar24 Dec 2009 10:33 a.m. PST

"Missed" in the sense of "I'm sure I own one of these. Where is it?" Yes.

In the "Should never have sold that" sense, No. Minis don't go on the sales block casually.

people have flea markets with gaming stuff?

At game conventions, and one of the local stores. EBay put a real dent in convention flea markets for a few years, but as eBay has gotten less useful the flea markets have rebounded.

DeanMoto24 Dec 2009 10:41 a.m. PST

I believe it's the same as a "flea market" – but the convention here calls it "Bring & Buy" or is it "Bring & Sell" – whichever; same thing.

Ping Pong24 Dec 2009 10:42 a.m. PST

No.

I have regretted flea marketing a large Naismith Design Aztec army, a cigar box full of Boxers, and a unit of Pass of the North Bombay Sappers.
To be honest, the latter two are the only ones I would have acually used. The Aztecs would still be languishing in their 70% painted stage in all likelihood. I have since drifted away from "Ancients".

There are some things I did not appreciate its true value, like white box D&D, and SPI's "The Conquerors", both of which went for $25. USD However, at the time I was happy to get the money.

firstvarty197924 Dec 2009 10:54 a.m. PST

I only miss the figures I've sold on occasion, when someone says "we should try playing that again" 10 years after the fact! I've not sold many historical figures I've painted for myself, mostly sci-fi and fantasy, usually GW stuff.

I do wonder what the status of a few things is, and if the current owner appreciates the paint job I did.

Unpainted stuff? Never give them a thought.

Rudysnelson24 Dec 2009 11:11 a.m. PST

Yes i do but s9metimes you have to make ends meet.

Cold Steel24 Dec 2009 11:27 a.m. PST

Yes.

Space Monkey24 Dec 2009 11:49 a.m. PST

I haven't sold many… but I do miss that Talisman wizard I accidentally sucked up with an industrial car vac.

avidgamer24 Dec 2009 11:57 a.m. PST

Yes. I once painted a large amount or 25mm Persians and Greeks and then sold them. I needed the money but… I wanted to keep them really. I put a lot of work into them and they looked great IMHO. Lot's of detail and colorful. That was about 6 years ago. Recently I was walking through another flea market (at Hcon)and that same guy that bought them from me was there. He was selling 'my' models!! He raised the price 2/3!! The price was now waaaaaay to expensive. I dropped by later (which was a mistake) and he had sold them. I was very sad. :(

I have the models to paint more for me but… they were done! I should have kept them.

DeanMoto24 Dec 2009 12:14 p.m. PST

Avidgamer:

You could look at your experience in a postive way too. For starters, the rise in the asking (& selling) price can be attributed to cost of living increase for the past 6 years. Also, that it was sold for that price must confirm that your painting was truly good and not just your opinion. Regards, Dean

P.S. Don't do it again grin

Farstar24 Dec 2009 12:16 p.m. PST

He was selling 'my' models!

The joke some years back was that there were only so many Ancients armies in circulation, and that they would simply change owners every few years. Sometimes they would acquire a few new stands or get some repair work, other times the army would reappear for sale as if it had never seen the light of day since the last change of ownership. "The Painters" were mythical beings that no one could identify.

He was selling 'my' models!

The bastard! grin
I have had "the usual suspects" scanning my wares before the flea market officially opened, and had me set them aside until they could legally buy them.
On the dot, they showed up, and bought them from me. I later saw my stuff on THEIR table, selling for a 50% markup.

Wildman24 Dec 2009 12:39 p.m. PST

NO.I sold a large amount of micro armor some years back
at one of the Historicons. Its at the point where 6mm is hard to paint for me. I got a fair price and the gentleman
who bought about half of it was happy. So we both walked away
happy.I have a bunch more I'd like to sell.

R Dean24 Dec 2009 12:56 p.m. PST

I keep track of the games I play. If a project hasn't seen a game in five years, I can consider selling it. I've actually sold a couple of things right after pulling them out for a game after a long break and deciding it wasn't enough fun. But in general, I've only had minor regrets about things sold, so I guess I know when I'm done.

Andy Skinner24 Dec 2009 1:09 p.m. PST

Every time I sell something and pack it up to ship (I've never sold at a flea market), I regret it a bit. I've felt wistful about some figures, knowing I couldn't put together that Warmaster collection again, for example. But I didn't _really_ miss them. I don't think I would have played.

Patrick R24 Dec 2009 2:00 p.m. PST

Out of sight, out of mind to me.

Regrets, I've had a few.

Doctor Bedlam24 Dec 2009 2:07 p.m. PST

Sell?

SELL figures at flea markets?

Doesn't this defeat the purpose of buying them?

skinkmasterreturns24 Dec 2009 3:43 p.m. PST

No. Good riddance, and go take up room in somebody elses house.

avidgamer24 Dec 2009 4:05 p.m. PST

Dean,

Yeah in a way I was kinda happy that they were re-sold and not just smashed and fired down range. I always wanted to do a Persian army because they looked so good but it is very time consuming to paint. Once done I was proud and wished I had never agreed to sell them. I smiled a lot when the first guy handed me a wad of cash though. After, I used my profits to buy replacement models and then put those aside. They are still unpainted. No elves have painted them for me. :(

Don't worry, I will NEVER do it again. I might only for an army that I have loads painted already for myself so this way I don't feel so bad afterwards.

Olaf the hairy24 Dec 2009 4:27 p.m. PST

I regret selling some warhammer slann. I had about 24 warriors and 8 cold one warhounds and handlers. I decided I would never find a use for them, but a few months later I discovered Hordes of the Things, for which they would have made an ideal army.

The Dozing Dragon24 Dec 2009 5:27 p.m. PST

'Sell' in relation to miniatures is not good English I'm afraid. I tried explaining this to my (German) wife when we first met however it appears her command of English is better than mine and she is still waiting for me to offloads some of the the hordes.

I do regret not picking up a large bag of Akheton insectoid tyopes in the early 80s from Triples in Sheffield (UK) plus a bag of citadel Spacefarers. Never stop to think or you will regret!

Once I have made the decision to sell something, I usually figure that I received a fair price and the buyer got some nicely painted figures, so I don't have a lot of regrets about figures from the past.

It is getting to that basic decision to sell that gives me a little bit of heartburn.

Historicalgamer25 Dec 2009 4:40 a.m. PST

I do miss them….but it is so nice when they take the time to write me a letter and let me know how their new owner is treating them……

Merry Christmas everyone.

Clay the Elitist25 Dec 2009 10:42 a.m. PST

I don't sell my stuff anymore, because it sucks to sell an army for cash and soon after to not have either.

And miniatures don't cost money to feed.

No

deanoware25 Dec 2009 1:18 p.m. PST

I have to agree with Clay. I will sell board games, video games, rules or what have you before I sell painted miniatures for the very reason Clay mentioned.

deanoware25 Dec 2009 1:20 p.m. PST

Now I don't have a problem with a good trade since I can appreciate the miniatures I got in return for those I gave up.

Martin Rapier25 Dec 2009 2:44 p.m. PST

Yes. I regret everything game related I've ever sold, as they are essentially irreplaceable (apart from a few books I've subsequently managed to find again). I actually sold my White Box D&D, all my Traveller stuff, White Dwarf issues 1-20, my vast 15mm 8th Army. What an idiot.

If you've got the space, never sell anything.

vojvoda25 Dec 2009 5:30 p.m. PST

I have never sold a single figure. I did trade some unpainted Ral Partha Colonials that I had for some other figures but I have never sold one single figure. But as I am finishing up some project I will be one of these days dumping some packs of figures I have that I will not be using.

Yes, the 20mm and 15mm WW2 stuff I sold off, oh, and the thousands of Airfix Napoleonics too :(

rmcaras26 Dec 2009 6:46 p.m. PST

nope

Slotministry26 Dec 2009 8:16 p.m. PST

Every time, but I rarely regret the choice to do it.

KONKURUR27 Dec 2009 11:55 a.m. PST

Yes – a huge Anglo Danish army in 15mm.

I sold some others but was glad to see them gone. Wrong armies for me. Insufficiently barbaric.

fitterpete27 Dec 2009 4:47 p.m. PST

Sometimes.I sold off a lot of stuff the past couple years because I needed the money. Now I have a great job making a lot more money and I think "dammit!"

cturnitsa29 Dec 2009 9:28 a.m. PST

I regret selling almost every single time. Still, there is neither time nor storage to accommodate every wargaming interest (to poorly paraphrase Marcus Aurelius).

BarmyBob29 Dec 2009 10:24 a.m. PST

this question is like a double edged knife for me. I do miss some stuff every so often, but I also enjoy the new stuff I bought with the cash or traded it for.
Though there is a bit of a thrill in the whole deal making process for me as well.
