Hello all and I hope you are having a merry good time!
I just played my first solo battle with Polemos GdD, 1 year and 6 months after buying the basic set. French vs. Prussians. I have some questions about the rules, points I did not understand well.
1) Tempo to orders: Is it my understanding that a CiC can give any number of Tempo points to a general who can convert any number, for example a CiC giving 4 TPs to a decisive general who then converts them to 20 possible order points(1 TP->5 OP)?
2) Orders. Can a unit or group of units be given multiple orders until the general runs out of orders? For example I am a desicive French division general, I have 20 Order points and two groups of units. Can I give multiple move or rally orders to a group of units. The only limits seem to be:
2a) The fact that an enemy unit can only be attacked once, which seems to limit the number of times a unit can attack,
2b)The 1 BW from enemy movement limit
2c) Units breaking. Can shaken units be given multiple orders?
3) I must confess that while I understand some of the consequences of shaken, I have no idea what role the small table in definitions plays. What does unit may advance mean ruleswise? That it can move towards the enemy I quess?
What does no move expcet to charge. ruleswise? That the unit can only launch attacks.
And what does rout mean? Is it break? Can it even happen outside of combat results, since a unit can only take 2 levels of shaken per game turn?
4)I also want to get sure I understood some things. Battle sequence
Unit A declares an attack to Unit X.
Unit X decides what to do, say balst the hell out of A
Unit A tests to attack and the result is attacker receives x SHaken levels. The result says nothing about Defender. I a assume that the defender opens fire then. That means that an attacker could theoretically receive more then 2 Shaken levels in one game turn. Am I to understand that the excess are not counted?
Are attacks made Unit to Unit or Unit/Group to Unit? Group to Group?
5) Is it me or foot artillery can't really move much in support of attacking divisions? Guns seemed very weak (to be fair I only had one battery per side).
I would really appreciate clarifications/answers.
I did enjoy the game, and the Tempo system provided the incentive to play both sides to the maximum of my ability, since it created a diffrent tactical situation for each side. The French won, but only when by a stroke of luck, they rolled 7 tempo points, only rolled 3 to a prussian 1 for Tempo player, and then had the CiC give his remaining general of division 4 TP=20 orders which he used immideitly to eradicate a Prussian Clavary Brigade and Infantry Regiment. Before that the French had lost there Light Clavary Division.
What I understood is that charging any calvary into fresh infatry is suicide:) Figures right?
