Hi all and merry christmas.

Well were about to end another year and i just thought id let you know about mine.

About 6 months ago i was aware of wargaming as an aside to my own hobby of roleplaying which i have been doing and enjoying for a long long time. But wargaming was always one of those things that looked like it needed far too much effort to get involved in.

Anyway, i started going round to a freinds house a couple of times a week and got involved in playing Arc of Fire with his 20mm ww2 and modern figures. Seemed fun enough yet i wasnt prepaired to spend a load of money on figures, the only figs i was aware of were Games Workshop ones.

I was told about Valient minis so i bought myself a pack of there british tommies and the paints to do them in.

Ive since been playing at least twice a week at my friends house, still with his bits. but i have been working on a 20mm Vietnam Project – US Army ACAV Platoon which is going really well and is almost complete.

I have also a large british army for Secrets of the Third Reich waiting to be painted.

But since then i have been introduced to the world of cheap 1/72 ancient and medieval plastics so im looking at those as well now. Oh and then i found these fun Sci-fi rules called Star Grunt 2. And then there is the 10mm Blitzkrieg Commander stuff due in the post.

Basicaly what i am saying is that this is an amazing and varied hobby which i am glad i have got into. The amount of reading im am having to do is immence as the History i did at school was rubbish and a long time ago.

New project ideas are forever jumping up and saying hello to me :) but i must be strong im trying not to start too many things at once so i can get a project completed and played with.

I have only one annoyance, the Valient Tommies i bought are only half painted, once i got into 20mm properly i noticed they are giants compaired to others in supposedly the same scale.

Anyway :) you all have a very merry christmas and a happy new year

Zero :)

Welcome to the wonderful universe of miniature wargaming. Just remember, no matter what games you play, how you play them, or what you use to play them…… As long as you have fun, you cant go wrong.

Oh and by the way, you never truly finish a project. It just gets better.

Have a wonderful holiday!

Welcome to wargaming and merry christmas. Looks like you've discovered the diversity and variety and are immersing yourself. Well done, exactly what you're supposed to be doing. You'll encounter some pretty serious nurds along the way who will insist that in 1527 AD the Sergeants of the Bey of Tangiers personal bodyguard wore purple socks not red ones but just dont worry about them, let the flak fly past and just enjoy yourself.

Ahhh, your story brings back memories of getting into the hobby. Games Workshop was also my gateway to a wider world of wargaming. I went from GW to renaissance to pulp to prehistoric etc etc.
Anyway, thanks for a great story, and welcome to wargaming!

Merry Christmas

Welcome to the hobby…

It's an addiction actually carefully disguised as a hobby…

Don't get used to your money…it soon won't be there…

And your lead pile will grow…

and so it begins……
