Where was this stuff 35 years ago when the new Airfix Catalogue was a much anticipated tome!! |
| Mehoy Nehoy | 23 Dec 2009 5:58 p.m. PST |
Remind me: what's 1:76 scale in real numbers? 15mm? 20mm? |

That stuff does look good. It is a little smaller than 20mm though isn't it? It might work pretty well with the larger 15mm scale figs. |

Those trucks are nice, I feel a definite need for them, as well as for the buildings. |

Sounds good, Look forward to seeing them release new stuff. Thanks, John |

Who owns Airfix these days? They/it seem to have been sold on so many times over the years. Doug |
| pauld895 | 24 Dec 2009 2:51 a.m. PST |
and it looks like they are going back to the poly bag and header card for the "pocket money kits"
..the memories, takes me back (too long, 43 years or so since I started, I reckon, and Airfix started a lifetime hobby) Thank you Airfix |

1:76 scale or .. 1/76 scale is very close to 20mm. Ideally if a miniature was 20mm from foot to top of head and the average person (male) was just under 2 meters tall then we are looking at a scale closer to 1/87th or HO, but given that most 20mm miniatures (like other scales) are 20mm from foot to eye that puts us closer to 1/76th scale.. and if you consider that most metal miniatures tend to be "beefier" than what is strictly anatomically correct (I like'em that way too) the mini's often look quite right with 1/72nd or 1/76th scale models. I'll be picking ALL of these up as soon as available!!!! |

Who owns Airfix these days? They/it seem to have been sold on so many times over the years. Hornby. Who make model railway stuff under their own name and also own Scalextric, Corgi and Humbrol. |

No sign of a reissue of Fort Sahara though :( |

There's a rather enigmatic listing for 'The western front' diorama Retailing for £29.00 GBP in the catalogue as well. Awaiting image! |

It looks like the firehouse John Brown made his "last stand" in Harper's Ferry. I wantz it! |
| Ceterman | 24 Dec 2009 6:57 a.m. PST |
pauld895, you said it exactly! I don't game in that scale anymore but if I did
|
| Jamesonsafari | 24 Dec 2009 7:13 a.m. PST |
Hooray! I still use HO scale stuff (including a very old airfix "Battle of Waterloo Farmhouse") for my 15mm SYW and WW2 battles. |
| DColtman | 24 Dec 2009 7:31 a.m. PST |
Hornby is doing such a wonderful job with Airfix. I hope they are in profit and keep it up. |

Too bad the buildings are all ruined. |
| Last Hussar | 24 Dec 2009 6:23 p.m. PST |
the average person (male) was just under 2 meters tall That's 6 foot 6 inches! Not so Average. from foot to eye Mr T says 'I pity the fool who measures to the eye'. But given there are fools out there who somehow think this is correct, remember that eye to top of head is approx 4 inches/10cm- 5% of overall height. So 20mm to eye is 1m44cm or 1m52cm, plus the 10cm is approx 1m60- 5'4" Hitler was 5'8" (yes, really). The Average US man in 1940 5'9", apparently the average European 2-3" shorter (from Army records) -5'7"ish So to eyes- 5'3" = 1m60 @ 1:76- 21mm @1:72-22mm Add 1mm for correct height To crown – 1m70 @1:76 22mm @1:72-23-24mm |

I aGREE THAT NON-RUINED BUILDINGS WOULD BE MORE USE TO ME. Damned kids and capslock |
| Martin Rapier | 26 Dec 2009 3:28 a.m. PST |
I think it is very appropriate that they have parked a Tiger in the ruined workshop, and a proper Airfix one at that (with the late war road wheels and no turret bin). |
| Cornelius | 02 Jan 2010 3:39 a.m. PST |
But WHEN in 2010? That is the real question. Some on-line shops were advertising the QLT in the middle of 2009 and apparently Airfix had a delay. |
| 4th Cuirassier | 08 Jan 2010 5:44 a.m. PST |
I'm sure if you kitbash 2 or 3 of these together the ruined ones can be "repaired"

The really important news is that they are doing a new set of figures – A01763 – WWII British Infantry Northern Europe (1:72 Scale) |
| Supercilius Maximus | 09 Jan 2010 12:30 p.m. PST |
Why do people think they are doing the figures in 1:72 and the other stuff in 1:76? Is it possibly so that they will be compatible with other manufacturers' figures? |
| dwight shrute | 09 Jan 2010 2:04 p.m. PST |
these buildings now a RRP of £12.99 GBP each

What has always intrigued me about Airfix is constant announcement of a "new" kits which turn out to be yet more re-releases from the 1960s etc !! What is this all about? |

I just ordered the "Bedford QLT and QLT trucks" set off an ebay seller in the UK. Despite the title and box art, it looks like you get just one truck with a choice of two bodies. So
do we have to buy a bunch of RAF sets just to get another Bedford cab and chassis? |
| number4 | 13 Feb 2011 7:50 p.m. PST |
Correction to my earlier post -this site has an in box review of the set and you do indeed get parts to build two trucks link Great news! |

Yessiree, Dapol bought all their trackside and accessories range. In the olden daze before internet, my friend and I used to drool over the pages of the Airfix catalog – until we discovered Penthouse and Fiesta Readers Wives :) Why do you need so many Matadors? As a medium/heavy gun tractor surely four should be enough – unless you have a wargame table the size of Rhode Island! Now 15cwts are a different story

We have one of the Workshops. It paints up very nice and is exceptionally sturdy, being one piece of resin. So far it the only one our group has seen. Weaselhoffen. |
| 4th Cuirassier | 15 Feb 2011 6:57 a.m. PST |
All the new Airfix buildings are resin. |
| number4 | 15 Feb 2011 11:54 p.m. PST |
"I always figured they could double as troop transports" Well at long last they don't need to any more :) But after about 40 years, there must be enough unmade Airfix 5.5" guns sitting around in wargamer's spares boxes to circle the earth a few times over! |
| McWong73 | 16 Feb 2011 9:03 p.m. PST |
Saw these in the flesh in Australia, but can't recall where I saw them. It was the ruined cafe, good size for 15mm, seemed a tad small for 20mm. And they're resin. It was a pricey buy, something like AUD$45 for the cafe. |
| Grand Duke Natokina | 17 Feb 2011 9:07 p.m. PST |
The workshop was $30+ Yankke dollars. Weaselhoffen. |
| chironex | 20 Feb 2011 5:38 a.m. PST |
Only $30.00 AUD in Townsville Toyworld. The stuff that went to Dapol was originally bought from Rosebud Kitmaster, Airfix just bought a bunch of stuff and the rest disappeared into the mists of time :( I wanna see more ruined plastic 20mm. |
