As a way to keep me interested and painting at a fast rate, I set up weekly projects i.e Zombie week, Afrika Korps week etc. I might read one or two books on the subject, watch a couple of movies and paint a good number of miniatures.
Do you do something similar?

A little too organized for me though as I often skip weeks without any progress. Not a bad idea though.

I just paint the figures I have orders for and then work in some of my own stuff if it is similar or even similar in colour. So if I'm doing some napoleonic brits I might add a couple anglo-zulu war brits to the set and get them in at the same time. For doing 20 figs at a time you get 22 done with two of them being yours. You soon get stuff together.

Naw,

I'm still suffering from Gaul lag. Still got about 100 or so to go.

Beowulf:

Interesting concept you have; and glad it's working for you. For me, I'm basically trying to catch up with long-over due projects. In fact, some lay dormant so long that I've forgotten the research I had initially done for them. I have been successful in smaller batches though – about 8-10 foot figures over a weekend. This wouldn't be straight work, but spread out over the weekend between other "chores." It's good to keep up on projects in any case. Best wishes. Dean

Thats a good idea beowulf. I've tried something similar, but it tends to run months and I've yet to stay on pace. My reading moves along though and this hobby directly aids my growing library. Until my youngest gets to the age where he can be of use at the painting table I won't be focused enough. I find myself buying more miniatures as a physical manifestation of my desire to move projects along, but I know they will sit in an ever growing que. I'm determined to buckle down someday soon. (saying it makes me feel better) Setting up the blog and chronicling progress helps me a bit.

The current list:
ACW (100's) of minis
FoG armies acquired (Later Macedonian, Ancient Spanish, Rep. Roman, and I've had my finger on the "checkout" button for Classical Indian, Gauls, Parthians, Greeks, and NKE)
AWI Perrys (repainting some Hessians after a armory matte finish disaster)
Sudan Colonial
ECW

I need a support group haha

I try to alternate fine detail work with big surface areas. For example I have been painting striping on Isabella caps on my Spanish Foreign Legion. Got tired of that switched to painting pants collars on my Carlists. Then I take several hour breaks. The good news is the units are moving forward but maybe not as fast as they could be.

I buy and paint in very small batches but they don't fit into a weekly schedule, its ore as and when. I can't decide if 2010 will be a major effort to break the back of the British Napoleonic army or if I'll just flit between the five collections I have. Concentrating on one period tends to be more productive for me but less enjoyable.

Weekly goals are a bit too tough for me. Monthly goals are a bit easier, but I had very little time in the last 3 months. I have a yearly goal, which I'm just shy of this year. I get bored painting the same thing and I've been painting samurai lately. Hopefully, I'll be able to take a break with pirates in the near future.
