Which is the most affordable out of these?

Essex Zulus have separate shields and weapons.

Believe me when I say that I wouldn't want to 'assemble' another 300+ of the little blighters.

Allen named most of what I have used in the past. I have also painted a lot of Stone Mountain.

Seperate wshield companies are Richard Houston, Essex.

I really do not remember which group Old Glory 15 falls into.

Old Glory 15's have separate shields.

I have no doubt that when I go digging in the back room this weekend as planned, I can probably turn up a stash of unpainted Gallia and Mike's Models Zulus (and British infantry, lancers, NNC…). But you'd have to understand that they haven't been "state of the art" for a very long time!

I'd go with Minifig….Stone Mountains were kinda under nourished…

aecurtis,

I started out colonial wargaming with those 15mm Mikes Models, some time around 1979-80. Despite their somewhat "munchkin"-like appearance they had a certain style of their own and when decently painted in vibrant scarlet and blue for the Brits and black and brown for the Zulus, made an impressive appearance on the table-top. Then I raised Pathan armies using Azabs from the Mikes Models Renaissance Ottoman Turks range and painted Riflemen from the Zulu range, with rolled greatcoats over their shoulders, in khaki, to use as British Regular from the 2nd Afghan War. When I was done I had hundreds unto thousands of 15mm figs, all individually based for TSATF, which was completely insane but a lot of fun nonetheless.

Sorry for the flashback derailment, combatpainter. Mikes Models 15mm Zulus have a fair amount of detail but are quite chunky and as has already been noted, perhaps not up to par with contemporary 15mm sculpts. Still, they'll always hold a special place in my heart!
