Hopefully this can remain an informative thread only. Some of us are going. For those of us WITHOUT a car what kind of dining options do we have within walking distance? Also how is the area for walking, do we take our lives into our hands (much like crossing the street by the Host) to get to any dining options or facilities? Thanks for any info.

Of course, you can examine the area in detail in Google Earth to see whether you have to play Frogger in order to find sustenance.

Outside of the convention site, there's not much (if anything w/in walking distance). You have State Road Rt. 23 on one side and US 422 on the other. Neither have eating establishments. You'd have to hop in the car and head towards the mall to find the infinite amount of dining options in that one square mile area. It's probably only a mile or so to the mall from the convention, but I'm not sure there's a safe way to get there via your two legs.

I'd be surprised if there was not some sort of shuttle bus from the hotels at the VFCC to the King of Prussia mall where there are dozens of eating establishments. As I recall there is also a tavern/restaurant within walking distance of the VFCC down Rt 23, plus the eating establishments actually at the VFCC. Certainly not the variety we had within walking distance of the Host, but I don't think anyone will go hungry :)

"I'd be surprised if there was not some sort of shuttle bus from the hotels at the VFCC to the King of Prussia mall where there are dozens of eating establishments."

That is what's indicated:

"Complimentary transportation to the King of Prussia Mall and local companies is available based on availability."

The Radisson site so indicates as well:

Many thanks to all for the responses!

Allen, will you be going?

Depends on the lottery!

i personally wouldn't walk from vfcc to the creeds place. but my brother would. it is flat, but i am not sure of sidewalks but 23 is generally easier to cross than 30 was.
i also didnt walk fron the host to the establishments across 30. so your on your own.
i couple of the delis would be walkable. they cater to the business crowd as the whole area near the vfcc is office buildings and such. but i don't know too much about anyone in particular.

Taking a shuttle to the mall to eat is really not the optimal option now is it. At the Host it was an easy walk to a bunch of places. Looks like alot of people will be forced to eat what ever overpriced food is served in the convention.

firstvarty197923 Dec 2009 5:30 p.m. PST

Most people drive or ride with friends so only a small minority will be "forced" to eat at the convention site.

You can always rent a car!

You already said you weren't attending, so why the continued grousing? It's going to be at Valley Forge this year for better or worse. It certainly won't be changing again!

doug redshirt23 Dec 2009 5:52 p.m. PST

Hey if JOhn the OFM can complain about Baltimore until Hell freezes over why do you care what I say. Are you worried I might say something intelligent.

firstvarty197923 Dec 2009 6:08 p.m. PST

I don't care really, but at least come up with a decent reason for not attending. That would be reasonable, even "intelligent". The cost of meals will be less than at the BCC I'm guessing, and probably comparable to the Host. You can ask the BoD for details, and if you really cared, you would ask those questions, and would base your attendence decision on a number of factors.

I can't speak for others, only myself. And to me there was reason for complaint about the BCC move, in that there seemed to be no strong support amongst the membership, or overriding justification for the move, and costs were an immediate concern that were never addressed.

The move to the VFCC is a cost-control measure, plain as that. No one has ever said that it's the optimal site – something that supporters of the BCC barely recognized. Instead, they ridiculed those who had doubts and asked questions. I don't think I've done that to you now, have I?

pancerni223 Dec 2009 7:29 p.m. PST

The lack of food options within walking distance is a major shortcoming for this site…a shortcoming that previous BoD's recognized when they decided not to move there…I realize for a number of good reasons its better than BCC but still not as good as Lancaster…

Condottiere23 Dec 2009 7:47 p.m. PST

I always thought the food in Lancaster in the vicinity of the Host was sub parr. I looked forward to the BCC specifically for the availability of good food, among other reasons. There do seem to be a few restaurants at the location though:

And the Valley Forge Plaza Shopping Center is in easy walking distance: 1/2 mile. Maybe some exercise would do us all some good! laugh

corzin23 Dec 2009 8:51 p.m. PST

important tip
the valley forge plaza shopping center on the link above is not the king of prussia plaza, infact i have no clue what the valley forge plaza is. perhaps tommorrow i will drive by it to see what it is. but the valley forge plaza is not the largest mall in america(by sq ft of retail space) like the court and the plaza are.

True. I was pointing it out because undoubtedly there probably are the usual assortment of pizzerias and Chinese fast food…a gamer's delight!

oh my, is THAT a softball or what?

not really, no.

Well, so much for sticking to the topic :)

Allen, should lady luck smile on you, or you do plan on attending, would very much like to meet and treat you to a beverage of your choice. Your help here over the years has been invaluable.

Truer words have never been spoken – especially in my case!

I hope that the convention organizers make arrangements for food service like the Host provides, as the cost and convenience (and dare I say it, the quality) of that service has been much appreciated and utilized by me personnally for the last few years. I think it has greatly improved the expericnce for me, and saved me time by NOT having to go "off-Post" for a decent low-priced meal.

((Ahem. Let me take this one.))
No, I have never been worried by that.

I use the money to buy more toys…

Dude, what about smoking some funky weed? Surely you must … I mean given your posts.

Have a happy holiday.

ECWCaptain24 Dec 2009 4:27 p.m. PST

To Firstvarty1979 (Jim McConnell)

Yes, there will be food concessions set up at the Valley Forge Convention Plaza, very similar to what was being done at the Host. That was already discussed, so rest assured we'll have the concessions aplenty, with decent array of choices. Details have to be worked out, but we're on our way for that.

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!

Bob;

Thanks for that update. A group of us traveling up from HMGS-South and looking forward to putting all this nonsense behind us and enjoying another fine convention.

You expect the crowd that could not walk across the parking lot at Timonium between the dealer hall and the gaming venue (about 100 meters) to do that?
