Sheesh. I had sent a payment via Paypal to another hobbyist, which for some reason couldn't be delivered, so I cancelled the payment and waited for him to send me a bill through Paypal. He did and I paid that bill. Now I come to find that Paypal cancelled the original payment, but still took the money from my checking account. It isn't showing up anywhere on my Paypal account balance, and the transaction history shows everything being hunky-dory
but my bank statement still shows a second payment as having been drawn on my bank account by Paypal. When I try to go to the Paypal Resolution Center and file a dispute, it won't let me file one without a transaction number, but it won't accept the transaction numbers of either the cancelled payment or the seller-initiated payment. I have to call their help line and spend quality time with Pradeesh in Hyderabad, but I'm sure I'll have to break down and do it eventually. Anyone else had similar issues with PP? I hate to de-link my bank account from the service, but I may have to do that and use my debit card instead, in order to have debit-card protection from my bank. *sigh* Oddly, what disappoints me the most about this is I couldn't finish processing my order for those new 6mm Brigade Neo-Sovs, because of the money that had vanished into thin air.

last time had general super easy question for paypal and just used an e-mail instead of calling them, they called me and it was from there phone center in Utah, so no worry about understanding the reps accent unless you don't speak ebonics. |

The reps on the phone are good, and your history will speak well for you. I had something similar happen recently, and basically once you've sent payment it is in transit from your bank through cyberspace into paypal's virtual bank. Once canceled, this now takes time to be verified and returned to your account. This may take 3-5 days according to their website, but rest assured the money will be returned to you in good time. Please be patient, or call for reassurance, but everything will be well in the end. 'Drew studiobergstrom.com |

I had some funds that had to be returned. It took nearly two weeks but came through OK. Its the way banks work. Any deductions are made within seconds
..but it takes days to give any back!!! |

Not with paypal but
A friend of mine was paying off his mortgage through his bank. He was using their online payment system to make a rather large final payment. He found that their system only went up to $9,999.99 USD for a single payment so he split the amount he owed in half and sent through 2 payments for the same amount. Their computer system on the deduction side handled this correctly but on the mortgage side assumed it was an error since the payments were the same amount and discarded the second one without logging it. So he had several thousand dollars deducted from his bank account but not from his remaining mortgage. Took him about 6 months to get it taken care of and to back out the accrued interest on the mortgage. Needless to say he has since switched banks. |

Speaking of switching banks
I used to bank with a local institution when I was in high school. When I left for the Army, I kept my accounts there and had my funds direct-deposited. Imagine my surprise when my balance statement showed I had $8,000 more than I'd had the day before! Turns out my dad, whose first and last names are the same as mine, had opened a business account there. True to form, when we started matching up SSNs, we found that the bank had eliminated my dad from their system, listed my mother as my wife (whiskey tango foxtrot??), and rolled my dad's accounts into mine. The real kicker, though, was when we tried to get everything changed back. I was stationed in another time zone and was handling everything over the phone, and the manager had the gall to say, "Well, we can't change anything without you signing the papers in person." Really??? Because that's what you did to get us into this mess! I giggled uncontrollably when the bank chain went under a few years ago. Anyhoo, looks like I'll just have to give Paypal more time and hold my Brigade order until after they fix things. Sheesh. |
