What manufacturers make cavalry that are comparable in size to Grumpy Miniatures? They have some nice Portuguese colonials and I'm looking for suitable cavalry (light horse, demi-lancers, cuirassiers, etc.) to complement them. Not a big fan of Essex, any other options that jive with their proportions and size? I have never seen Grumpy's in the flesh, but think they might be a little large and seem a bit cartoonish. Thanks! |

Hi PAR The Grumpy figures were actually designed to be able to fit in with Essex minis, so, if you're not keen on Essex (actually the SPANISH AND ENGLISH 1559 – 1605 range isn't too bad), your next question is what 16th/17th Century Cavalry are compatible with Essex :) Cheers Vic Pocilujko aka Grumpy |

PAR You might want to look at our Early Renaissance range as they are on the larger chunkier side and might fit in with the style you are looking for. blackhat.co.uk Mike |

I know you said you're not keen on Essex, but I mix the two and they fit fairly well. You shouldn't notice a disparity in size, especially not if you were to keep a distinction of Essex horse and Grumpy foot – as you suggested, Grumpy are slightly chunkier than Essex, but not much. You'll find some pics of various battles showing the two ranges used together here: link and here: link |
