So I will be working on an Iron Hands 30k Marines Chapter later this year. As they are specialists in siege warfare, I need some ideas for long range arty.

Sure, the FW stuff is great, but too expensive to do full batteries (for me anyway!). So, I'm open to suggestions as to what will work for Space Marine arty (self-propelled or towed).

For a really big gun, one that could be the centerpiece for a whole game or even campaign, you might want to check out the massive cannon that Warmachine sells as a terrain piece. It retails for about $80 USD but you can usually get it for half of that. It is pre-painted and is rather a nice piece all around.

I have one but have yet to use it in a game. That will hopefully change next week sometime.

It isn't self propelled or towed, it is more fixed, but it might still be of use to you.

I suppose no one does a WW1 heavy gun in 28mm?

Throwing rocks from orbit would I suppose detract from the background setting?

HLBS 28mm WW1 line has an 8" hoiwitzer and another piece.

There is a toy artillery piece from the Starship Troopers line that works really well for Sci-Fi 28mm artillery. I've converted a couple of them, I'll try to get some pictures up when I have a chance.

They are on a tripod and out of the package shoot a dart. But it is pretty easy to remove the dart and kitbash them to be useable. You can find them on E-bay if you are persistant.

I just looked it up and it is the Action Fleet-Starship Troopers-M1 Pulse cannon. There are a couple on e-bay now in the $25-30 range.

A little more expensive than they were when I picked mine up.

Check out Armorcast resins. They have a couple that will work.

Ive seen 'em. Not really jazzed on 'em. A little too cartoony for me. They would work for Ork arty though (imo).

I like the retro-WWI arty look myself, like:
