I can't believe nobody has bid on this yet. I'd be all over it if I didn't already have rooms in Vegas for new years.

Its an absolute steal at $500. USD . . that's something you never forget. I saw them shoot one of these down in Baton Rouge when I was visiting my parents down there. Its stunning! Every car alarm in a 2 mile radius started going off!!

Sounds like someone is selling model 1938, five inch naval gun? Probably cost 5 times the bid to move it to your home and secure the necessary permits…as for shooting the damn thing off…good grief!!

Five inch, 38 caliber.
In this case, "caliber" refers to the barrel length, in multiples of the bore diameter.

"legendary port-side (Philadelphia side) 5-inch gun "

Ok, have to ask. What makes this gun 'legendary'?

Just being mounted on the New Jersey is legendary enough <grin>

And getting to fire a round, even a blank round, at Philadelphia is a bonus!

Damn – I thought I could purchase one – would make for some fun "deer hunts" next year!

I took the Firepower Tour of the USS New Jersey four years ago. The ship is in awesome condition. The Firepower tour is worth the money. You get inside the 16" gun turret. A port side shot would be in the direction of Philly. The sight of the Battleship brings you to your knees.

I forgot. The tour guide on the USS New Jersey was an old salt who served aboard her. He was dedicated and in a rapture to be walking its decks. Them that love the ship have an honest fear that one day this ship and other like it will be turned into razor blades for the consuming public.

Sounds like more fun than I'm going to have that day.
