I'd like to convert some of my Schleich Crusaders to LOTR Knights of Dol Amroth and Guards of the Citadel as described in the books. What kind of paints can you use on those types of figures? And what sort of epoxy works best for the head and weapon swaps I'll need to do? With head swaps in mind, is there a company that makes 90mm parts? There are a number of Schleich and Papo figures that have the right body, but only a few that have the Norman/conical type helm I want to use.

I have found Liquid Nails to be a very good glue on these figures. Make sure that you make ample use of "pinning": piano wire is best, and at least two pins per join. I wish I could offer better advice on paint, tho: I've just used acrylics like we normally use for painting minis….

Thanks! I will try the acrylics. I had heard that acrylics had hard time sticking on the PVC.

It does, but not so much to the paint already on the PVC….

Ok, so if I am painting over existing paint, I should be ok. What about spraying the figs with Dullcoat or something similar?

I've never done it on big plastic figures before (and I no longer clear coat my gaming pieces either). Your call….

I'll have to experiment on some older toys. We're off to a local Christmas market today, I'm bringing along a Schleich for a scale checker. Hopefully, some of the German creche figurines will match in scale.

Well, no luck on the creche figurines, but the FLTS had Schleich toys for 5 Euro per fig, so I bought several. We'll see how the painting goes.
