I have started working on identifying the regiments & personalities in the OBs around the time of Oudenarde, I'm really struggling with Dutch & Danish units, but also some others, looking for good sources on Dutch, Danish, Prussian & Imperial units, well any help in this area.
for example can't seem to find the Prussian Lattorff regiment.
I'm not concerned with uniforms at the moment, just trying to trace all the names in the various lists, don't mind what language for online sources, will look at other battles later, so anything covering 1701-1715.

If you're in N. America check out the books on CD in Dan Schorr's bookstore ( northernwars.com ) . I think the titles are also available from the pike and shot society in the UK.

They are uniform resources but there is also unit history on a lot of the units.

Dan also has a free download on the website about the Danes in this period.

From the Brandenburg-Prussia CD for example it turns out Lattorf was originally Schabendorff, became Wolffen in 1703, Lattorf in 1704, and du Trossel in 1708. There's lots more info about it on the CD….

The 'Oudenarde' book by Christoper Scott is pretty good. You can pick it up at On Military Matters here in the states or Caliver Books in the U.K.

Thank you for those replies, very useful, I will look to get all the above sources.

It seems my notes listing all the names of the Prussian regiments is missing bits, it was originally take from the dorn/engelmann books, my note starts with Schlabrendorff and then goes to Tossel in 1713, so thank you very much for that, interestingly Tossel was a brigadier at the battle.

I did just find this which looks very detailed on the Prussian army link

need something similar on the Dutch & Danes!

Any reviews available for the Christopher Scott book? whats the OB like?

whew! That's all that I see. I HIGHLY recommend you get Scott's book!! It will fill in the rest of the brigades AND it gives a very good account of the battle. I really enjoyed reading it.

Gosh I hope the author doesn't consider this 'copying' his book and tries to sue me! frown

Graf Bretlach14 Dec 2009 1:37 p.m. PST

Don't worry, I have ordered the book, but no one else must read your post unless they have the book or you will have to kill them ok.

Thank you for posting that, it gives me an idea what to expect, hope you have a good scanner/OCR package, i'd hate to think you typed it all in!

looking forward to reading it over christmas

18th Century Guy Supporting Member of TMP14 Dec 2009 4:06 p.m. PST

Uh, I typed it all in! But I type fast.

18th Century Guy Supporting Member of TMP14 Dec 2009 4:10 p.m. PST

Just so you understand, those brigades that have 5 or 6 battalions but you see only 3 or 4 units listed. Those are a single battalion regiments, I just didn't list the other battalions as they were not Dutch or Danish. Does that help?
