Anyone familiar with this system who could give me pro's and con's? Just noticed that, apart from the three official "races", there's no budget to create new races, unless i missed it. PDF link |

They are working on an insect race
I have some of them the Skyth, IIRC
DRM will continue to produce minis, they just released some, which I immediately ordered. DRM also makes a Spaceship game too. I have never played SoW, but I know the owner from the net, very well. I think that from what I read of games & the rules(which are online & Free !), it's one of the best 6mm sci-fi rules out there. It is not a simple system, but not overly complex either. It is a "realistic" system. I'd rate it equal or slightly better then FWC. And above Epic:A and DS. Way above Iron Cow & NetEpic. I'll post this on Tac Cmd, which is our 6mm Sci-fi and the DRM owner is a member. Seriously, if you are interested in 6mm Sci-fi, Tac Cmd is the place to be
We discussed SoW and have a thread dedicated to it on Tac Cmd. So you'll find more info there

SoW is trudging along nicely. And there's work done to both the Skyth and more info on the previous three races. There's also some rumour about a fifth race, some techno freaks (how that's possible with the Andrayadas already on the scene
?). As far as the rules goes it's much an evolved sibling of Dirtside 2 (DS3?), much more so than Epic Armageddon (that got a lot mixed up badly). As was said in the eighties – Try it, you like it. As for pro's and con's it's probably easiest to describe it in terms of what you're playing otherwise. So what do you want it compared with? |

Hi. I work on the sister game for DRM (Hostile Stars), but I will happily talk about SoW. Current races consist of four – Pax Arcadian (human), Andrayada (robots), Kraytonians (lizardmen) and Skyth ('bugs'). I can neither confirm nor deny the rumoured presence of a fifth race, but certain greens have been seen floating around
for example: link Right hand side. In terms of game mechanics, it is probably best if you ask any specific questions, but for an overview
The game uses alternating activations. Both sides place order tokens, and each player activates a formation in turn by taking a command check and flipping the order token. Orders allow all the regular actions such as move, shoot, charge, etc, as well as things like infantry digging in. You have the rules, so you know how the basic mechanics work. Pros and cons will depend on what you are looking for (and bear in mind that I am a little biased). The game is still in development, but the core mechanics are pretty stable right now. The initial three races wont change much aside from adding units at this stage (I guess), but the Skyth are newer and not recommended unless you are happy to get involved with feedback, etc. Anyway, please do feel free to ask any questions you may have and I will do my best to answer them openly. All the best. |

Yes, that Heavy Tank & Bugs are already out
I remember seeing those greens. I look forward to seeing the aircraft in production. And to add to what C/S said, IMO, alternating activation is the way to go
IGO-UGO is just plain primative in comparison

Alternating activation is just a micro version of IGOUGO unless some extra chaos is tossed in IMHO. Not commenting about SOW. I know nada about them. Just talking about the alternating activation mechanic. Thanks, John |

Basically that is true
But as already mentioned only one Detachment per side is actived
back and forth
Not one side moves/shoots all his units then the other side does the same
Mirco version of IGOUGO is a good term for it
I guess

AA is far from IU. You can react in micro sections and can't be compared to front reaction as per IU. It's off course better if a WD (we do) could be arranged, but so far it's to much memory handling for it. The other easiest way to break up IU is to use the "I move, you shoot, you move, I shoot". SoW is dealing with it quite smartly thou. And that's the point, right? |

That is the point !! |
