kinsnevatt29 Nov 2009 6:26 a.m. PST

Hi gunfreak, i am trying to play the demo but can't seem to move my troops anyone having the same problem!

malcolmmccallum29 Nov 2009 6:38 a.m. PST

Unpause it?

This is a game where taking one's time to slowly go through the manual will be a blessing. Iniatial impressions are that there is so very much to learn about how to manage these troops.

I was just getting my first battlefield successes when it locked up on me :/

Very pretty and promising.

"cannot find LGdN.exe"

So, buggy as a buggy thing

ah well

cardboard king29 Nov 2009 7:48 a.m. PST

Connard Sage the LGdN.exe is where you installed the game to. Example for vista: My computer/C: Drive/Program Files/Histwar/Histwar La Demo. there you will find it and then shortcut it back to your desktop.

Hope that was of help to you.

Gunfreak Supporting Member of TMP29 Nov 2009 7:52 a.m. PST

Go to, C: programfiles/histwar then choose the histwar ikon.

Oh, and DON'T chage the settings in options, it will make the game crash.

The tutorial battle takes 3+ hours to play, even when you use the maximum speed generolsy.

Had a few close calls, and the polish corps got a bloody nose, and a regiment of austrians put up heavy resistance, it took 4 attacks to pry them of their possision.

Connard Sage29 Nov 2009 7:59 a.m. PST

I know where the .exe is supposed to be. I'm not that much of a computer numpty. The start up script can't find it/won't open it.

Oh, and DON'T chage the settings in options, it will make the game crash.

Like I said, buggy

cardboard king29 Nov 2009 8:24 a.m. PST

There is no start-up script…that's what the .exe is for…but then I only have 10 years of working with computer programming, sorry it was of no help to you, I also can't seem to find the buggies!

MichaelCollinsHimself29 Nov 2009 8:59 a.m. PST

Me too kinsnevatt,
I can`t move them but their little legs are moving though!

Cardinal Ximenez29 Nov 2009 9:19 a.m. PST

Another broken,buggy game.
It's why I stopped playing these things.
Not sure what's worse, when they're broken or when they're great and take up too much painting time. :)

It ran fine for me.. I just unpaused it… The only problem I had was when I got near the edges of the map it got a bit laggy.

I managed to win my game. It was a very close match. The Only issue is once I started pushing the Russians back after their failed attack 20,000 Austrains on the Right flank did nothing. They did not attack or anything. 13,000 French and 9 Guns for 15,000 Allies with 97 guns.

LVLAURN29 Nov 2009 11:33 a.m. PST

BTW its not a eye candy game by any means, but I felt enough of a Flavor with the battle to ensure I will give it a try if only to see a Large battles outcome on a Campaign scale.

Gunfreak Supporting Member of TMP29 Nov 2009 11:43 a.m. PST

Just came from a 3 hour game, played most of it on max speed but it still took quite some time.

I guess hitler was right, nordic people are über, the sweeds kicked the ass out of the french guard.

The austrians were also hard fought, they didn't move and any attack I did on them was repulsed.

In the end both our armies were batterd, I got victory but not realy sure why, as I got as good as I gave

Ken Portner29 Nov 2009 1:28 p.m. PST

No problem running it here.

For those who can't get the troops to move, did you play the tutorial and thus read the instructions? I played around with it a bit before doing so and couldn't get them to move either. It wasn't intuitive.

For the guy who got the bad .exe file, try downloading it again. Your .exe file may have been corrupted.

Gunfreak Supporting Member of TMP29 Nov 2009 1:35 p.m. PST

I do love the 150 gun artillery duel I had at the start.

But those Austrians are deadly with muskets.

There is a lot of bugs, but it stil seem to work at a napoleonic simulator.

The need to have a reserve, my first line on my southern flank was over run by the sweeds. they ran right into my second line.

Patrick R29 Nov 2009 6:49 p.m. PST

Runs like a dead tortoise on a slow day for me …

tangowhiskey29 Nov 2009 9:10 p.m. PST

I am unable to download the demo. I receive an error message indicating windows can't download from the website and is timed out. Any ideas why this is happening?

MichaelCollinsHimself30 Nov 2009 3:27 a.m. PST

Maybe I`m missing it, but is there a way to simply give orders to a whole command; a brigade or a division?

Allan Mountford30 Nov 2009 5:25 a.m. PST

Dowloads in less than 10 minutes but all I get upon running from the .exe file is a splash screen and moveable reconfigured cursor. Nothing to click on to and therefore nothing to activate the game.

Any ideas?

- Allan

Error message when the splash screen appears:

D3DERR_NOTAVAILABLED3D Module:5 Numero:24

I'm going to hazard a guess Allan that you'll get further posting your error messages on the game's forum, rather than here.

I'm looking forward to the concept of this game, but so far the stream of errors and issues people are experiencing is making me wonder just how many more years we'll be waiting for it to work as billed? Downloading the demo tonight to have a looksee myself.

Gunfreak Supporting Member of TMP30 Nov 2009 8:21 a.m. PST

Aperantly some of the tactical AI is missing, making units behave stupid or beeing very inactive, not expoliting gaps ect. or cavalry not attacking the flank of enemy infantry not in square

I suspect you are right. I do hope this game works: nine years in the making is a long time.

LVLAURN01 Dec 2009 6:39 a.m. PST

One thing I will say is that I love the statistics screen.

Los45601 Dec 2009 6:45 a.m. PST

This demo requires careful going over of the Tutorial and most of the questions on here would be answered. And reading the manual would be advised. Looking forward to multiplayer coop in the full version.

(I Screwed Up)01 Dec 2009 2:35 p.m. PST

Having downloaded the demo finally, I can't even get a single unit to move, despite going through the tutorial 3 times. I've experienced several of the bugs described by others though, so not impressed. I'm uninstalling and will continue to watch to see if it ever gets off the ground.

Gunfreak Supporting Member of TMP02 Dec 2009 3:39 a.m. PST

I had a very bloody battle. mabye to bloody.

I was the coaltions side and attacked on both flanks, austrians and russians on the south and sweeds and prussians on the north.

In the end, 13 000 soldiers lay dead, 30 000 wounded.

I had 71% casualty rate, while the french had 51%

But the AI still behave stupid, when I order a corps to attack, instead of the corps actualy attacking, it sends one and one brigade against a line defended by mabye 10 000+ soldiers, it makes it impossible to actualy punch though and take the field

Mike the Analyst02 Dec 2009 3:33 p.m. PST

Allan, do you have Direct X installed on your PC and is it a recent version (9 or 10?)

Allan Mountford03 Dec 2009 9:36 a.m. PST

I have DirectX 9.0c. I'll check for updates.

Thanks.

Dont forget to press W to pause and unpause the game or else your guys will never move!

Gunfreak Supporting Member of TMP19 Dec 2009 7:40 a.m. PST

The game is ready for pre-orers.

Price varies from €39.00 EUR for download only to almost $80 USD for collectors edition

A second demo has been released for those that preorderd the game.

There are major imporvments, the demo gives you the battle of austerliz both the map and OOBs, aswell as to non historic battles.

The AI now works, while in the first demo you had single regimetns moving out trying defeat an enemy corps on their own, now you have massed cordinated assaults.
Cavalry screens, and chase down feeling units.

Just to name a few

Allan Mountford13 Jan 2010 3:03 p.m. PST

Still doesn't work on my system :-(

Gunfreak Supporting Member of TMP14 Jan 2010 6:42 a.m. PST

What exactly happens, how far into the demo do you get?

Allan Mountford14 Jan 2010 7:43 a.m. PST

I get the splash screen of the grenadiers in square with an arrow cursor and nothing else.

Left and right clicking does nothing.

Demo worked OK on my Power Mac operating in PC mode through Bootcamp. Tried some marching around so far. I like it.
